New guy from MN, posted in the Yamaha forum to get some help and Brutal was very helpful in helping me track down/explain a pretty simple repair.
Anyway, here's the back story. I was looking for a cheap garage stereo for the past few months, not wanting to really spend much. Two days ago a free system came up, it was a Yamaha rx-550 (receiver), Yamaha kx-w232 (tape deck), Yamaha CDC-615 (CD deck), for free. The best part is that it came with a pair of nice Klipsch KG4's in great condition.
It was the original owners system, still had the invoices. They were giving it away for free because it was broken. I took it home, cleaned and tinkered and realized that the LCD was the only thing not working. After posting here, Brutal helped me diagnose a burnt back light.
Some other random cleaning on the pots, connections, and CD lens it was sounding pretty darn good. Nothing like spending $1.49 for a nice sound system, I feel guilty putting it in the garage... So for now it sits in the game room next to the arcade and foos table until I figure out where I want it.
