I've been working on restoring a pair of CV D7s I bought and have posted bits and pieces of the work across a few threads, but figured it would be nice to see the entire process in one place.
New foam surrounds with the refoaminator
Swapped the 15uFs for poly and replaced the 40uF
Ripped the front edge off on table saw to veneer the front.
Rough sanded cabinets with 60 grit for better glue bond over old plastic veneer.
Added solid walnut edging to front.
Added walnut strips to finish the backside.
Resawed and applied new walnut veneer with polyurethane glue. Applied light walnut stain for more consistent colour and a couple coats of boiled linseed oil and wax.
Made some tapered legs of birch with ebony dye and polyurethane finish.
New grill cloth and pegs.
Cast a missing logo from a wax mold and used chrome pen.
Happy to be finished as the project was interrupted many times.
The only downside was that after all the work, I realized the pair are from different production runs - notice location of crossover controls and the shape/position of the mids. Oh well, they sound pretty good at least and will just keep the grills on.
