The fuses in my cerwin vega vs 120's keep blowing...the fuses are 2 1/2 A 250v...I'm driving the speakers with my SX980..should i be using more voltage fuses...any help would be great...says in the specs for the vega's that the fuse is self resetting PTC (HF)...

The fuse ratings should be listed somewhere near the fuse holders. If the ratings are right and you're blowing them often, then there's a problem and the fuse is just doing it's job. You might check either the output from the receiver or any loose connections in the speakers.

Just to be on the safe side I'd check the DC Offset on the amplifier.

The original protection devices may have been self resetting.

It says in the specs for the speakers that lower wattage receivers tend to blow the fuses more frequently but I have a marantz 2250B and it seems to be fine with speakers but when i hook up the big boy SX 980 it seems to blow them...

The self-resetting is only for the tweeters. The fuse is overall protection for the speakers.

In my Cerwin D-9 speakers, the fuses are slow blow variety. Is that what you are using?

If they are "normal" fast blow 2.5A fuses, they will blow pretty easily since 2.5A @ 8 ohms is only about 50 watts. However, even a fast blow fuse does have some limited overcurrent ability. So, I'd guess that peaks of 75-100w will blow them quite easily.

The slow blow will last longer on the peaks, but still provide some protection for the speakers from longer-term power overload.

Sounds like something is up with the SX. What kind of volume level are you driving these to when they blow? But then if the Marantz will drive to the same level and not blow, then that is the clue.

Ken, they're Cerwins...I'd wager the problem is when they're cranked up... is there any other way to play Cerwins? ;)

:lmao:

I'll have to take your word for it, and the reputation they seem to have. I've not had the pleasure yet of having my hair blown straight back by a set of CV's :)

Thanks to all that replied this site is awesome!!!...what i did was just moved up .5 of an amp to 3..its rated for 2.5 but it seems to have done the trick..and yes they are slow blow fuses
