G-9000 Misbehaving: Volume Cuts Out

My G-9000 has just started misbehaving. After about 10 minutes, the power to the Left Channel cuts in half. However, if I turn the speakers off and then turn the volume control past the 2 o'clock position, it returns to normal. Does this problem sound familiar? Any ideas about a cure?

Sounds like you need to get it serviced with a good cleaning of all the controls especially that pesky connected/separated switch. My G22000 was dropping the left channel and when I turned it on and off the channel would cut back in. Servicing and a burnishing of the relays and good as new.Don`t touch the connected separated switch with the unit powered up.
 
There are three of them...one which all signals must pass through, and then one each for the 'A' speaker set and the 'B' speaker set. Too many contacts IMHO, and a weakness of the 8000/9000 series.
 
I had the same exact thing happening. Now it is in the hands of Dr. Echowars for an overhaul.......Can't wait for his prognosis....... :)

I would love to have Dr. Echowars have a go at mine....but how much is all the shipping?
 
Some say I could have spent much less had I known the "in's and out's" about shipping. I would rather have Echowars do the work than to bring it to my local shop and have them do just a fix to get it working again not knowing when I'll have to bring it back to them.....Echowars is going to "overhaul" it for a decent amount of money. I hear he is "the best" out there.......I've not asked him about looking into my G33000....but plan to excercise my shipping knowledge next go round if he is interested in that job......I paid $170.00 for a round trip ticket to MO from California ! Ouch...... :sigh: :sigh:
 
...because you went to a 'pack 'n ship' Ma and Pa store. Had you gone directly to a UPS or FedEx counter, you would have saved $75 or more.

EchoWars: It there any chance you could explain to the ignorant, like me, how the relays cause this problem. It would seem to be a dirty volume pot at first glance, but, like I said, that is what the ignorant would think.

Hey, look at it this way, once EW works his magic on your unit, and it's back in your hands, that expense will be quickly forgotten as you will sit in slack-jawed awe of the G-9000's reproductive capabilities. :D

intermittent volume

This is the exact same thing my 9000 was doing when I got it. It is also the reason I was able to talk the guy down to 125.00

The culprit on my 9000 was the tone defeat switch and the amp-preamp switch. A good cleaning with de-oxit will cure the problem.

Of course clean the switches with the receiver off and unplugged. These 9000's are way to precious to take any chances with.

To properly clean the defeat switch requires removal of the entire board. Its not too bad if you've worked on stuff before, or if you are mechanically inclined.

If youre not comfortable doing it yourself, don't risk fu*#ing it up, have a tech do it for you---
