G-9000 Versus G-9000DB with Direct DC

Well the back of the G9000 says 640watts and the G9000db says 700 watts
Both are exactly the same power output. They are identical power amplifiers, in fact they are identical units apart from the Dolby Decoding board for the Dolby FM De-Emphasis.

I have worked on both, over and over again.......same same same...

The only Maximum Power Consumption figure I can find is for a G-9000 and that is 680W.

Where are you getting the G-9000DB figure of 700W from? (post a picture of this please) - and why is this important to you? You do know that the 'Maximum Power Consumption' figure is only given because of electrical safety regulations and conveys nothing in comparative terms about the actual audio power output of two similar units?
 
Ok so we are talking about a 20W difference, the additional Dolby circuitry is unlikely to account for much if any, of that. :)

The only other thing I can think of is that Multi-Voltage and thus multi-(mains)-frequency units may measure differently because of small differences in the transformer. Or the mains frequency applied when making the measurement of power consumption could have been 50Hz in this case, as opposed to 60Hz for the G-9000 model - thus accounting for the difference. :dunno:

But such a small difference is really inconsequential, and should not be a reason for you to be concerned in any way, (or enquire further about the matter!). :angel:

Who care? Why are you so concerned about it. I have had both DB and non DB on the bench and they have identical performance...

It's likely something to do with the way Sansui tested the two different units....But seriously, why even worry about it?
 
I'd suggest that rated consumption measurements may be different for USA and Canada models due to either idiosyncrasies of the UL/CSA certification process, or maybe US or Canadian government regulations on taking such measurements. Never underestimate the whims of bureaucrats in dictating unusual "standards" that must be adhered to.

What I'd like to see is a 120V only version to see if it's rated consumption differs from a multi-voltage unit as pictured above. Was the G9000 with the 680W rating a multi-voltage unit, or a single voltage version?

Fundamentally, I agree it doesn't really matter. But it is a curiosity.

Ive never seen a 120V only G series receiver, did they even make them?
 
I'm not sure i have either thinking about it now, but unless UL and CSA relaxed their 120V 60Hz only requirement for equipment sold in the US and Canada, respectively, then I'd think they must have. I know the 9090(DB) were specifically made to those requirements with the 120V primary only on the transformers, and the CSA versions mandated extra fusing to be installed as well.

I'm going to check my G9000 shortly to see if it is single or multi voltage, and if the latter whether it does or doesn't have a UL insignia on it.
 
Ok, I've checked two of the three G-9000 (all non-db) I have and both are multi voltage and have no UL cert indicated externally that I can find. Both of these are rated at 680W consumption. Have the third one still to check, but it is in a tight spot and not easy to get out to look at the rear panel.

So, does anyone here have a 120V only version of a G-9000 or G-9000DB? Or is there actually no such animal? And what about UK/EU versions? Any 220V or 240V only variants? Can't say I've ever seen any but admittedly I hadn't been looking.
 
I have seen 240V 50Hz only version of some models by Sansui for sale specifically in the UK. These usually had the "convenience' outlets omitted from the rear panel (by regulatory requirements of Gov't safety certification I believe) so as to avoid having 240V potential on the metal chassis.

These seem to be hit or miss, I've only seen a few models made this way; of course I'm in the US, so wouldn't expect to run across them with any regularity here. I suspect only selected models were so made for export to UK, and not sure why some models had to be so equipped and others were permitted with voltage change capability. Perhaps requirements changed with time, and were either relaxed or made more stringent.

I have noticed from years of looking online at Sansui gear that the UK seems to have gotten many small to mid range integrated amps that were not commonly seen in the US. I guess the UK may have been an odd market for Sansui since there were already a plethora of British audio brands of some repute, and of course brands from elsewhere in Europe were probably also well represented making for an different sort of competition.
