Gave my Marantz 2230 a bath.

...might be a damper climate in Manchester UK than what we have here.

being over cautious is better than the alternative IMHO

A Marantz going under the shower head ? :yikes:And some here think it will still work ? I'd be dam scared too, lol.

i have a electronics duster

sort of not exactly but close like this
http://www.amazon.com/Metro-Vacuum-...e=UTF8&qid=1395190831&sr=1-1&keywords=datavac

if it was me I might just put that one the thing (carefully as to know break anything off or loose or what not.) and see if it looks like any water is being blown out or if it seems to be pretty dry?

wouldn't use an air compressor however ... my friend blew a capacitor off his video card trying to clean out the dust using his compressor ..it was pretty funny.

It actually might work. Remember this ad? :)

As Fernarias mentioned earlier in the thread, some components can allow water to infiltrate, and if the water has any impurities in it, the water plus impurities may cause corrosion and deterioration. Personally, I'd be worried about water in the transformer.

The longer the unit sits, especially if water has entered some components, the more likely there is to be some corrosion. If you've done everything you can to dry it (moving air, gentle heat, or using some sort of dessicant, not sure how to spell that, I'd go ahead and turn it on.

Dead. If not, let us know!

nah... i doubt it is dead ..I did this to a grosser than anticipated pioneer integrated amp awhile ago.. then was foul smelling i had paid $5 for it for reasons unclear even to me.. and decided... meh hosed it down, bushing nastier parts, then rinsing in filtered water... got out my electric electronics duster blew most of the water out left it in the sun for a day brought it, went again with the duster thing looking for more signs of water coming out..

let dry a couple more days sprayed with pcb cleaner and lubed switches

thing fired up fine... and didn't smell terrible anymore.

amusingly when we moved it wasn't worth the bother so i donated it..

Well, I finally plucked up the courage and powered it up. It's working! I have only tested it on AM and FM but the meter is working and so are all the lamps. Even the stereo lamp is working with a 3 foot piece of speaker wire used as an aerial. The transformer is not getting hot, but has so far only been on for 10 minutes.

Next step is to leave it powered on all day at the weekend. Then it's time to test it with speakers. All being well, it will go to the tech I use for a full service. Lube all the pots and switches and test the caps.

At least it hasn't blown up... Yet!

Still nervous though. But one thing. It's very clean inside!!!

Congrats on the successful power-up. I would suggest periodically removing the cover, to check for any signs of corrosion (Usually white, or Green) on component leads going into the components and pads on the circuit boards, and brush it off with something like a stiff acid brush is you see anything. Of course you should have the power off, and plug removed when doing this.

I will do that. Thank you for the advice. I left it on for 1 hour and the heatsinks and transformer barely got warm.

Congrats, what about the horrid smell you had mentioned? On another note City or United fan?

^ Good to hear the smell is gone and RVP was outstanding the other night. Here's hoping his knee is ok. Enjoy your upcoming Derby and best of luck against Bayern.
