GE Portable Phono/Radio. Anybody recognize this creature?

A friend of mine recently found a General Electric portable record player. Both he and I searching the internet couldn't come up with any information about it. I'm wondering if anyone here has any idea what this thing is.

I've seen a few different portable record players before, but never one like this. I'm guessing that it's from the 60's but I'm not sure. The radio is working but the platter doesn't spin.

It sure is funky looking. I love the color scheme.

So, does anyone know anything about this thing?

A-ha! I suppose the model number would be good.

I believe that the model number is R-488. I hope that helps.

I saw 'em thru the mid 70's, but they may have been NOS. Those little battery units were real popular from around '68 thru '74.
