I like his stuff too. I would put it in 70s pop, simply because I can't think of a better slot for it.

Enjoy,

his early stuff has many influences imo jazz, funk, opera, jazz and a few more. Early Gino was not pop imo

FWIW- Rhapsody puts him in Rock/Pop>Adult Contemporary. I still have "A Pauper in Paradise," which I bought when it was released (30 year ago!), but that's the only Gino I have, so I probably don't have enough exposure to reach a conclusion.

Self indulgent sex fiend that thinks he's God's gift to women.

Other than that we used to use "Storm at Sunup" as a reference album in the 70's.

Back in my DJing days I loved to mix "Black Cars" into "Naughty Naughty" by ?, T T T T Tease Me.

That video was added in 2007, it's much older and that looks like a wig to me. I saw a recent tv special and he looks nothing like he did.

He's not my cup of tea, but obviously a lot of people liked him since he sold well. I enjoy the review of him in the Rolling Stone Album Guide:
"Perhaps Vannelli reached his nadir by wailing the ludicrous lyric, 'I'm just a male Caucasian' to overblown synthesiser accompaniment on Storm at Sunup, But for this schlockmeister, 'nadir' is a relative term. Virtually his entire career has been a progression from valley to gulley, and he qualifies as an absolute Il Duce of bad taste."
It goes on in this vein, amusingly so, or irritatingly smugly so, depending on your taste.
No offense meant (hollow protestation, obviously)

Sorry guys but his style of music is classified as ACID JAZZ (mix of jazz and pop). I personnally love the Brother to Brother album... his first and almost only commercial success. My parents kept playing it when I was growing up. This album is the reason why I went back to vinyls... One of the best LP'S ever produced... U can truly feel the stylus bumping in the grooves ... The drums are incredible and were recorded in the same track as the lead vocals... Makes it very present (Gino is a drummer btw)... When u listen to it on a CD u lose some of it ... U really need LP to truly enjoy it as it was intended to be... It's now my 4 years old son that keeps asking me to play it ... Guess its in our genes :)
