I hate not having a job, I get to much time to browse on my hands. I just found another maggie, needs work. Cons I am out of room, no way i can keep the cabinet, pros has the 6v6 amp in it that i want, only 25$. What is a man to do???:pity::pity: I guess I will haul it home since I am going half way there to check out an estate sale....ugh...things to do this weekend start selling stuff!!!

VERY COOL !

that's the one with the stereo bi-amp configuration - kinda like two 150-XX chassis on one chassis :thmbsp:

for starters, grab the schematic so you can see all the component values and circuit layout

not sure how much reading you've done, or practice you have, but you'll want to install a fuse, power switch, decent binding posts, and probably a fresh power cord . . .

all the power supply caps, the cathode cap(s), and coupling caps should be replaced too . . . once it's recapped, check for loose connections under the hood, make sure all the tubes are strong, fire it up and cross your fingers :D

if you're new to this, you're going to have lotsa fun . . .restoring / modding these old tube amps is addicting

Recapping is the easy part, fixing previous homemade repairs like in my 1934 philco is the hard part  I have and EL84 maggie amp, that I made into to stand alone, pretty easy, just wish I knew I needed those 2 little resistors a lot sooner :D Looking for the schematic now, the 2nd number in amp 1*2 AA is smudge and I can't make it out.

I'm pretty sure it's a 1*8*2 . . . .

I hear ya on the Philco :D I have a early 30's Crosley I'm totally procrastinating on :D

Should be either AMP172 or AMP182.

Given that the unit has a tuner/preamp, I'm guessing 172. IIRC, the 182 would have likely been in a chassis without a tuner (turntable only)...

Gordon.

I still have to restore and fix the hum problem in my Maggie Hi Fi Console with 170 amp. No doubt will have to do a re-cap in the future.
