Goodmans Dimension 8 Speakers

You can spray the canvas with a spray can, I have done that with the set that is here in the living room, in my opinion it does not affect the sound.sketch-1548969136859.png

I bought a pair of these recently. The quality of sound and separation is fantastic but the treble is so harsh and exaggerated as to make them almost unlistemable. I thought this might be due to the extra tweeters fitted by the previous owner but I disconnected them today and the improvement is minimal. All the drivers are working and appear to be in good condition. Any advice would be much appreciated.

Post pictures of the tweeters please, take the passive woofer out and take a picture of the crossover to.

I don't have that issue with my speakers at all.

Thanks for getting back to me so quickly. Here's a picture of one of the four tweeters. I took out the passive woofer but couldn't see the crossover which is located above and to the side of it.

Ok it seems like you have the original tweeters just need to see the crossover now that way we can tell if it's been modified or using the original capacitors.

pictures of crossover duly added. It is located on back panel above bass unit.

OK that's different, just Google goodmans dimension 8 crossover youll see the differences, I have a thread on diyaudio which you can compare.

It's something to do with your crossover and components used. You need to take it out and do a circuit diagram of its design, can't really help you further.

That crossover looks modified and different unless it's an early version where they did this at factory, which I doubt.

Internally it looks built differently to others I've seen, take a picture if the whole speaker, and the drivers please.

Here you go. I have disconnected the extra tweeters mounted on top.

Aahhh makes sense now, those aren't original, that's a new enclosure, the passive woofer at the rear has been reconed.

Your crossovers have been rebuilt probably with a few tweaks.

Long story short they are not original, you need to alter the crossover to limit your tweeters.

I can see that they don't look quite the same as the original ones particularly from the back. I wonder if they are a DIY copy of the original design?

Whoever had them had the original speakers, maybe the enclosure got damaged or they wanted to improve them.

Who knows, hence the reason they will sound different. Not a bad thing now you just have to modify them based on what you like to hear.

Still watching in 2025? One of the mids VC is rubbing. The rubber vinyl surround seems to be a single piece. would you suggest replacing with traditional surround? The paper cone seems also to be wrapped in this single piece vinyl?

looking at what you have done, you'r" probably the best man on the planet to advise!

cheers!
