Goodmans/Lafayette speakers? What am I looking at here?

Anyone know anything about these and have an opinion on them? I searched around, and can’t find anything like them. The front says goodmans, the L pad says Lafayette, and the woofer says Goodmans for Lafayette, and the boxes seem like they could be home made(?). I suspect that the drivers are pretty decent just based on the metal and paint work.
Right now I’m just trying to decide if they’re worth driving an hour to hear. Thinkin I might offer my minty pioneer sx828 as a trade… Thoughts?

I've a pair of Goodman 12 or 15inch tri-axials and a pair of Lafayette tri-axials as well. The Lafayette's are rebadged Goodman's both made in England. I've had them set up with Heathkit W-5 . The speakers are very efficient and have a very nice sound. The down side is they are big and do take up a lot of real estate . Goodman's are a quality build, I say go for a drive and give them a listen.

Goodmans speakers were of high quality rivalling Wharfedale. I have a pair of Knight KN-2250k which were built by Goodmans in 1963-4 and still sound excellent. So in my opinion go and check them out.

If the asking is not too much, I would definitely want to hear them.

My office is currently only 3/4 full of speakers, so no problem with the size :). It seem like the vast majority of Goodmans’ are co/tri axial, and these are oddballs because they’re normal

It’s a significant drive, but a pleasant one up through western mass into Vermont. I think you guys have talked me into it!

Thanks! I had no idea they also make drills and microscopes

Lafayette and Allied Radio aka Knight just rebranded items. My Knight speaker are 3 way, a 12” woofer, 6” mid and a horn tweeter.

Not trying to rain on the OP's parade

Is it me or should there be some knobs/dials where the 3 empty slots/holes are?

If not what are their purpose?

Also it looks like the binding posts on the back are not original which leads me to wonder what additional work if any has been done on them.

Lol, I’m actually looking for a reason not to go, do rain is welcome. Yeah, I figured the boxes aren’t original. All the reasons you mentioned plus it looks like they’re modern birch ply with a not-pro-grade finish. The closet pole bracing toe-screwed in is a dead giveaway too. Overall, they just look way to clean inside to be old. Fortunately I’m a cabinetmaker, so new boxes are no prob
