Not long ago I got a Sansui R-99Z and found out that it wasnt so hot, It kinda burst my bubble and for the third time I went looking for something decent. This time I havent come back with nothing!!

I got a beautiful Sansui thats actually worth the Sansui name. The thaught that went into this thing is awseome, very nicely made and it even has two spare globes for the front inside little holders. I got it and was a bit concerned at first as both 2.5A fuses were blown. I put in a 1A fuse for testing and its come up fine, I think somebody just didnt know how to set up speakers and poped the fuses. Other than the fuses and missing its feet this thing is perfect! Sounds and looks great! I got it for $38 with a Sansui 331 and had to make about an hours drive. Was definately worth it. Heres some pics!

The 331 is OK, but has plastic and uses an STK. It looks like a classic Sansui by its face though. This 800 looks to have very similar styling as H/K stuff like the 330B. When you switch from AM/FM to AUX or Phono the lights on the dial turn off too which I understand is something H/K did too. Anyway, what do ya think? It looks and sounds great to me.

You have a nice Sansui in this one. Well built. Sounds excellent. Nice bass, warm and lush midrange and highs. Fantastic build quality. I own a Sansui 4000X and love mine. :tresbon:

Is this really only 20Wpc? It seems to have more guts than most of my stuff, I have 27, 35 and 50Wpc receivers that dont sound this powerful. Pretty gutsy.

Wow, this thing just sounds great. Its so smooth and easy to listen to, but still pretty detailed. I the noise floor is way lower than anything else I have close to this age. Listening to it now there is no hiss or hum in the background, even when there is nothing playing I cant hear any noise untill I put the volume way up beyond levels you'd never use with headphones.

There is only two things that annoy me, the first is that the volume pot is VERY sensitive and jacks the volume way out of proportion to how much you turn the knob. Second is that if I'm listning through the AUX input and then switch to FM the volume is way louder in FM, even if I have the AUX source jacked right up switching to FM is still much louder.

Does anybody have one of these and know if the volume issues are typical for this model? Or are there a few resistors going out of wack? If anyone has info/specs let me know. Thanks!

I have a 2000x and the volume is pretty sensitive.Barely need to move it unlike Yamahas which have a long throw in the volume. These Sansuis are pretty beefy as to their wpc rating.Great sounding.

I'm contemplating adding some resistance so I can get finer control, and adding an internal pot to level out the FM. When I'm adjusting the volume to be a little quieter one channel ends up going right down and the other only sligtly (this is right at the bottom of the scale) so it can be frustrating to adjust, some resistors might fix this. Although I dont want to change it around too much so I'll try live with it for a while before I decide I really want to modify it.

First of all, dayum that is a beautiful pic! I should have you over when I am trying to take pics of equipment for sale.

The volume is pretty sensitive on these. This is a 'feature' I really like on certain Sansuis, plenty of gain.

I'm working on one now and recommend you replace ALL the preamp transistors, and the first transistor stage of the driver boards. The 2sc458s are known for getting noisy. I put KSC1845FTAs in mine. DEAD quiet now.

This is easily the nicest sounding 20w/ch recevier I've had my hands on. Beats Marantz and Pioneer. Really nice sounding tuner and a great AM tuner too,
