Very nice looking. Of course I'm biased to Altec. Have you ever heard the Stonehenge II's? I have a set but am missing both original tweeters and one original woofer. Pretty decent sound still but I always wonder how good it could be. Could you give your impressions of the Stonehenge I's?

Your marriage won't last much longer if you keep this up. Immediately box up one pair and send them to me.

Wow.

No WAF there, they look cool as hell, now you need to find the III's for comparison to the 19's, what a collection, I love it!! :music:

That would be a super find if you get them, the 604-8G and 604-8H are my favorites for moderate listening levels, Dave. :music:

Love Em !!

I have NOT heard the 2s, so I cant comment on them, but as far as the 1s go, they are FANTASTIC !!! My brother heard them and was "BLOWN AWAY" by how good they sounded (RussinOhio) I just cant get over being able to find a total of 3 pair of them..... Along with my 19s... (of corse im being a bit biased also, I LOVE Altecs, I have Mach 1s, 2 pr HPM 100s, Large Advents 2x, 2 pr Altec 9s, AR9Ls, JBL L26, SP 3000, SP1500, Altec 416-8As, VOTTS, and so on..another 20 pr or so. I AM NOT KNOCKIN JBL, KLISPH, PIONEER ETC... BUT I LOVE the sound of the Altecs, 19s FIRST,VOTTs 2nd, the Altec Stonhendge 1s..3rd.. these are being powered by a Sansui BA 3000 and CA 3000, with a BSR EQ 3000 and a Denon CD player and Pioneer PL-570 tt) IM IN LOVE...or crazy...lol. :nutz: What driver #s do you need for the Stonehendge 2s? Ill keep a keen eye out for them. Michael.....

I'm just looking for two matching Altec woofers that will fit the Stonehenge II's. Not sure what the original part number is but it appears that the woofers from the Model Nine Series I and Series II will work. Looks like the woofer from the Stonehenge I would work fine as well. I'm happy with the dome tweeter in them. Now the Stonehenge III's look like the ones to have. Hope ya get em. Thanks for the offer to look.

Michael, weren't you the one looking and hoping to get a pair of Altecs less than a year ago? :sigh:

If so, you don't let any grass grow under your feet do ya? Those look excellent. I have never heard any Altecs other than my Model 17 604-8G's, but knowing they came from the same family, I can imagine yours sound great.

III's look like they would be a nice addition to your family. I would only start off with one pair of III's though. You and the little woman can always adopt more next week.

Steve

Those are really nice looking. And a pair of Altecs that will fit in my house! I'm now on the lookout for some Altec Stonehenge speakers. So how do they sound anyway? Compared to ......some of your other speakers.

Macaltec,
Lansing Heritage's library has a reference with the driver part numbers on many Altecs including the Stonehenges.

i belive they are altec 414 models that your looking for if that helps :scratch2: altec made 6 models of 414s. 414a was 16 ohms 414z was 16 ohms the rest were 8 ohm drivers 414b -414-8b -414-8c- 414-8z. nice speakers the stonhenge ones. lots of kool factor also :D

holy **** i think i just wet myself.what a collection of altecs and not one but 3prs of stonehedge.i can guess that the waf is no where to be seen.now what you have to do so that the 19's dont feel outnumbered is to find 2 more sets of those to even things out :D .

these are being powered by a Sansui BA 3000 and CA 3000

dont know if you remember that i have a set of 19's plus a ba3000 but i finally got off my butt and took the my fairchilds out of my setup and hooked up the ba3000 to them using a mcintosh mx110 pre/tuner(still looking for a ca2000 or 3000)and have to say that im enjoying the new setup quite well.i find that even with the tube pre i still have to keep the levels on the crossovers around 9 oclock or my ears will bleed at any higher volumes of listening.my room also being small also probally contributes to me having to have them turned down.with the fairchilds though i can turn them upto about 12.

The 19s are very nice but the Stonehenges leave me cold; frankly the only small late model Altecs that I considered "real" Altecs were the Bolero and Madera as they used the 414 based 406 woofer and the "mystery horn".

But I always considered the Altec direct-radiating tweeter-floppy woofer stuff as being as, ah, uninteresting as everybody else's DR tweeter-floppy woofer stuff.

Not intended as a damper, just as a point of discussion.
