Hello, All,

The GRS K-33 replacement woofer is on sale at PE for half price. I have a pair, paid full price, but haven’t had a chance to use them yet. So I can’t speak to its quality personally, but it has generally been well-received.

Might need to pick up a second pair, ‘cause you never know…

I picked up a pair full price ($99USD) too a few years ago. They sounded good in my ported bass horn (a LaScala by any other name). They sounded much better than the 49 year old worn out K33's that were in there. However, I was able to sell them (everything has value) and recoup some of my cost of the new woofers.

Then I discovered the Celestion FTR15-3070e for a few dollars more and they are unbelievable in the ported bass horn. The 3070c is a few dB more efficient and should sound great also.

Perhaps, an equally compelling buy:

A nice set up for the tops of a La Scala, FH-1, type build, per @Gigantic

An interesting option to porting of the bass bin.

I wouldn't recommend them for my application, but for standard operating with less extension, I'm sure they're fine.

The GRS K-33 looks to have better specs than the Celestion. As direct replacement the Celestion shines?

I may have miscommunicated, @Gigantic I was referencing the 15” Reference Series Passive radiator. I thought that is the one you used in your build. It is also on sale.

Oh, sorry, caught that with my morning coffee; I wasn’t firing on all cylinders yet. Yes, that passive is great, but I wouldn’t recommend the GRS or K33 woofers, they’re inadequately damped.

I have only used the GRS K33 and Celestion in a ported bass horn. I can't comment on a Cornwall type enclosure.

The Celestion woofers are 8 ohm, the K33 and it's variants are 4 ohm. I would only recommend the Celestion for tinkering/modifications, not as a direct replacement for an OE K33.
