Grundig SO312 - Telefunken TW504 Turntable

Hey everyone,

I'm in need of a bit of help regarding a TW504 turntable. I have a Grundig SO312 console that I am having fixed by a local guy. The radio is up and working, but the turntable isn't. He told me that it was missing the "shaft" and that I should try and find another turntable or the part. I did a whole bunch of searching and couldn't find anything. I found another Grundig (SO 101/60), took the turntable out of it, and short story is the guy wants to cut new holes in the 312 to make it fit. I don't really want to do that, and thought I might turn to the experts here and see if anyone might be able to tell me what he means by the "shaft" and if anyone knows where I might be able to get the part to keep from frankensteining this Grundig too bad.

Ask the "local guy" to be a bit more specific on what he means by the "SHAFT". It could be anything. The picture doesn't show any defects that I can see from the top.

You COULD, get a piece of 3/4" plywood, make the outside dimensions the same as the area for the turntable. Then cut IT out for the new turntable, and clamp the two together using the existing holes in the console. THEN put the 101/60 in the console.

This Telefunken changer looks like a VM changer. Some Telefunken consoles used VM changers assembled from USA parts supplied in knockdown kits. So Gary Stork at VM Audio Enthusiasts can supply you parts.
 
I shot an email to Gary at VM Audio Enthusiasts, and he said he didn't think he could help me and suggested I talk to someone in a machine shop. Not exactly what I was hoping for, but I may try and find out exactly what the part is and then try contacting him again, hopefully with a part number or something of the sort.

He said that VM supplied the technology and their own parts to Telefunken changers in Grundig systems. And that more often than not, they looked very similar, but were different parts all together.

So I just talked to guy who is repairing my console, and he said that the turntable is missing the hollow top shaft for the motor. Not sure if this is still something that VM might be able to supply, or if I should try and find it somewhere else (not sure where). Any info would be appreciated!
 
It sounds like he is talking about the motor pulley. If so, are you in North America, where the electricity is 60 Hz, or are you elsewhere. It would not be the same as on a VM.
