Harman Kardon avr 7000 loses 1 channel in anything but stereo

I just picked up this monster HK AVR 7000.
Now in the stereo and 3 ch stereo modes it works fine.
However in any other mode, like Hall1 or 2 etc etc it loses the right channel, and needless to say, the rear channels do not make a sound.

Has anyone fixed one of these. This is apparently a common issue. Cos the 1 on ebay right now also has that same issue, as is a lot of fixya.com posts.

Thanks.

I had an HK AVR-7300 that after a couple years had problems with the VLSI processor chip. real nice 7x125w/ch receiver with Logic7 and all kinds of great features and now its just stone dead.

Wish there was a way to bypass all the processor stuff and just use it as a 7 channel amp - but that's beyond me!

I've googled it and printed and got all of the standard items.
I do suspect a bunch of caps on the dsp board. Or a ribbon cable being loose (I wish).
Thanks for the replies.
Cool.

Ok this amp has one more issue, hopefully I can find out with this added piece of information there will be a possible way to figure it out.

The headphones make no sound, and more importantly the display starts flashing "HE" and back to the tuned frequency on the tuner - repeatedly.

I think somehow it is related to the other problems of this amp.

Cool.
