Has anyone actually had any luck selling on CL?

Tell me I would like to know. I have listed several things over the past month and seem to get plenty of replies but its always from these F*cking Losers offering me more than I asked and wanting to pay with MO. Do they think I am retarded? So has any one actually had any serious inquiries and possibly even made a deal selling on CL cause I am begining to think its a waste of time.

To tell the truth . . .

it has worked for me . . . on the buying end.

The way I look at it. . . CL is for buying bargins!!!

Ebay is the place to see if your instincts are spot on!!!

Yes....

I have sold all kinds of stuff on C/L. I too get the Scammers, but only on higher ticket items. I have sold several sets of speakers, furniture, even jewlrey. The thing with C/l is that it's not like ebay, you are not gonna get top dollar for your gear there. If you want top doller for audio gear, use Ebay. People on C/l are looking for deals like me and you

This is just my experience. In fact there is a guy here on C/L that asks top dollar, and never seems to sell any of it. It is always relisted!

I sell(and buy) quite a few things on CL Phoenix. The thing with craigslist is that you arent going to get top ebay dollars.People on CL are usually looking for a deal, unless you run into someone who wants what you have in particular. The fastest selling audio item Ive had was a pair of Klipschs that went in less than an hour.Or the ipod. That went quick, and that was at full cost, minus the tax I had paid.I know tube stuff goes quick, too.Ive had a hard time with turntables, though.I still have two on CL that Ive gotten maybe one bite on.Unless its a smoking deal, garden variety vintage usually doesnt sell very quickly for me.

I had alot replies on some gear and furniture I had listed there. I was so sure I had a sale one time, then at the 4th e-mail the buyer offered me more than I wanted, she was sending a prepaid shipping label and told me to ship it to Asia for her nephew. After all the correspondence, she really had me up until then. WTF! I listed everything on e-Bay.

I've bought a lot of stuff off CL and sold a number things too. Depending on your CL market you could be limited in number of serious buyers. Generally the items I've sold were a lot less for what you would get on eBay. eBay is pretty much worldwide and reaches millions.

It's also seasonal. I had a Marantz 2238B that had just tire kickers on CL for months. Couple months later when I reposted it. I had them lining up crazy to buy.

I'm not out to make money, just trying different stuff, I've managed to break even with a couple extra bucks. And I don't have to lug a 60 pound receiver to UPS.

I agree with Booaroo, it is more for bargain buying. Like right now on the SF CL there are some very nice looking Large Advents for $30.

No problems here buying and selling on my local CL. Dealing with some sellers can be frustrating but it goes with the territory. The scammers are pretty easy to identify, then you hit the delete button and move on.

I've sold lots of big stuff on CL; stuff too big to ship like my kid's old wooden play center, a leather La-Z-Boy recliner, an antique oak farm table, my daughters's old bike.
I've also sold some gear that would bring ho hum bucks on Ebay and most likely cost more to ship than the bid was.
If it's decent gear, like anything that would bring more than $50, I'd use Ebay; no doubt about it!!

CL not good option for selling

I purchased a DB Systems Pre-Amp off of CL from someone with a bunch of items. As far as I could tell they were all in good condition and reasonably priced. (I would guess about a third less than eBay prices and no shipping…) He seems to be re-listing each week with only a couple items missing from the list. My conclusion is why bother trying to sell there if nice items at reasonable prices are not selling. In this area, at least, there seems to be a shortage of serious buyers… or mostly bottom feeders looking for something for nothing… Either way, it doesn’t look like a serious option for selling.

I've sold a few pairs of speakers and a few receivers lately on the Chicago CL. Had lot's of emails, I got the email from the guy who wanted to send the speakers to his nephew in North Africa and he was going to send me the pre-paid shipping label, the usual scammers, but eventually I found real people with real money looking for what I was selling. I even sold to ARGuy from AK who I met through CL.

I've sold several receivers on Portland Craigslist. Mostly the low to mid power receivers that I've rescued from garage and estate sales. I've fixed some and almost all I've cleaned up. All have sold for less than $100. Sometimes they don't sell right away but do so after a few listings. I've also sold a turntable and casette players. Sometimes I get flakey buyers, but overall it's been a great experience meeting nice folks. Bought a pair of Rectilinear IIIs a few months ago and love them. Got a speaker on my wish list and did not have to risk shipping damage. Portland is a tough place to score off Craigslist since there are many of us vintage stereo fans in the area, but we do get some great gear for sale around here. A good place to look is the garage/estate sales offerings.

I've never had any experience with CL before, but from what I know it's good for selling lower value items or those that are hard to ship, but expensive, high-end items aren't going to sell well on there.

Well I listed about 10 items on one CL ad about 4 months ago asking for best offers.

Got E-bay type market prices for the Kenwood KR-9600 and a Sansui SR-838 so I was pleased. No scammers but dozens and dozens of low ballers and dealer/flipper types.

Not sure where you live but see Lefty's post. The CL here in CA do quite well with more expensive items like cars and motorcycles. The most expensive item I've purchased so far is a $900 home gym. I'm also searching for some vintage furniture that ranges in price up to $3,000 for a single piece and they are out there on CL.

I've paid fair price on CL, always what the seller was asking, have avoided shipping costs, and occasionally had the items dropped off at my door.

As a buyer, it's been great.

As for the sellers, I can vouch that they have been happy with the transactions so far as well. No arguement from me, no issues.

Has worked out well for the both of us every time.

Well, on my local CL there's nothing exciting, at least for now.

I've sold a fair amount of stuff on CL, mostly pieces I've run out of room for and need to move along - and since most of my "collection" came from thrifts, I'm normally able to get a decent profit with CL buyers. The biggest PITA is that for everything I list I get a bunch of responses, many of which turn out to be "no shows". And there are the "send me the item and I'll send you a money order" scammers. But it works okay, and I've had good luck unloading speakers especially.

I was able to sell a few good speakers like Paradigm's and JBL's. I also sold a Marantz 2220 there. In general I sell the ones that are hard to pack or when I am lazy and do not want to go thru the whole laborous Epay process.

I have bought and sold on CL. I sold my boat in 1 day. Bought and sold gear. Gave away a trash compactor, garden window, and old bikes. Easier to give the stuff away then to trash it.

I do get lots of "I will buy it for sure" and never hear from them again.

Don't always like the CL weirdo's comming to my house, but have had good luck so far.

There is a Concept 3.5 receiver on there now for $25 I am thinking about getting.
