Hello All

I was wondering if anybody has bought the new 23L Classic Quad speaker yet. I was wondering what your listening impressions are and was wondering if anyone has found any reviews yet for these speakers. I know there are some current reviews available for the 11L Classics and 12L Classics but haven't seen anything yet for the 23Ls.

Has anyone heard these speakers yet? I was wondering if they would have the same tonal characteristics as the Quad 11l and 12l Classics but with deeper bass because they are floor standers.

They reviewed the Quad ESL-2805 in this month's Stereophile. Haven't read it through yet, but seems they enjoyed them!

Not sure how these compare to the 23L.

A few years ago, I had it in my head that I wanted a pair of Quad 21L. We had a local dealer at that time and I went in for a listen. I had read reviews and all indications were that it was a "laid back" speaker. I prefer the New England sound and have owned several pairs of Magnepans, Spendors, and ADS speakers that I enjoyed. I prefer the "laid back" vs the JBL/West Coast sound. That being said, I found the Quads to be dull and lifeless. I was very disappointed as I was expecting and quite willing to lay down the cash to buy them. I don't remember the amplifier that was used but the shop leaned toward tubes in most cases.

This may not apply to the 23L and YMMV but that is my experience.

Underpowered?

Very late to this thread. But the Quads you listened to were probably "underpowered" to sound that way. I have the 21Ls and love them. I am keen to hear more about the 23L from anyone who has experienced them.

Here is my my Quad setup:
