Have you ever run out of space?

When the renovation here are complete this Spring I will have six systems set up around here, but given the way the house is designed and the way we use space it isn't completely illogical. I enjoy having the option of listening to music wherever I settle and all of the gear presently set up gets used, so it isn't like a storage facility or anything. Given that much of the gear is either vintage or a bit long in the tooth and periodic refurbishment is needed I can justify a spare in each category. When it gets beyond that then something goes up for sale.

We're thinking of buying a country home sometime in the next year or two, so s system for there will clearly be considered.....

Yes, I have run out of space. I live in an efficiency apartment so it's just a kitchen, living/bedroom, and a bathroom. Both the living/bedroom and kitchen are fairly large kitchen is 14x12 and the other is 16x17 but right now i have them crowded.

With the murphy bed down the living room is cut to about 9x10 and in that space I have a computer desk, tv stand with 32" tube tv, speakers x2 (obviously) my Sansui speakers that don't work, a record bin, stereo rack, a high back chair, three end tables, and a record player console that needs rebuilt. Basically their is a path from the little hallway that snakes around to the stereo and to the couch and computer. With the bed up I still have tons of space to expand.

In my kitchen I have a eating table, my working table for rebuilding race stuff for my friends (mostly carbs) and record bin, that needs a new, base laying on it's side. the obvious stove and refridge, another record player console that needs rebuilt, and all my tools. More open space than my living room but still really cramped.

Our Hawaii Condo, although large by Hawaiian standards, is small compared to what you would find on the Mainland. We have to be careful with what be put in it and where. No room for hoarding at all.

Florida? Space galore. Bring on the gear. But someone mentioned there is a difference between storing and enjoying. Yep. I really only listen to three systems. The others are rarely used if ever.

Trouble with hifi gear here is that they cannot be stored in outside shed or garage for fear of possible damage, as it is so damp and humid in there.

I have two stereos in the office! I'm definitely at a point where I'm selling off the lesser gear. I just need to find a place to put the JBL L220's, though...

Yeah... I am officially out of room, and on a stereo diet.

Doesn't mean I won't grab up something tasty if it wanders by, but does mean selling off the excess has taken priority.

Getting no props from my wife so far on that effort though, if one box arrives it's grounds for full interrogation, forget about the dozen boxes that went out the same week. Apparently those don't count... :scratch2:

I have 2 systems, 1 for 2ch listening in bed room
The other is a 5.1 system in a small den.
Wife said NO MORE till my daughter gets old enough.

I can relate to most of your guys situations. I just try to decorate and make it look like things belong there. My wife has excepted my crazy hobby but when I'm forced to sell things move fast and then she's happy, although seems like I get rid of one thing them something else follows me home. It really is hard for me to pass up a good deal. I guess I'm real serious about my passion.

Yep looking for a new house at the moment and the only criteria is 2 bathrooms and more space to put more systems. Still in denial I have a problem :music:

I have my Sansui rig set up in the living room. Everything 'fits' fine but it's tight. And it works. But zero room for anything else. Just the way it is. I like the smaller space - 'Out of sight, out of Mind. And that suits me just fine!! No one even really 'sees it' except for the box speakers. Good!!
Also have 2 pairs of speakers in the closets taking up real estate.

My wife has her 7 component 5.1 Sony stack rig in the bigger family room in a tall 'piano black' Pioneer cabinet, double glass doors. We got it in a stereo store close-out sale, brand new, for 1/2 of the $700 original price. Just really lucked out on that one. We weren't even looking for a cab, but... there it was!!! Cool!!

Also have a Sony stack in the guest bedroom in a MINTY 1970 laminated wood Kenwood cab, dbl glass doors. I love that cab!!! Installed 1/4 inch plywood on the back with 14 wood screws - solid as a rock.

It's all Good. But zero room for any more stereo gear - which is a good thing!!

I live in a 1250sf inner city condo and my hobby is designing and building speakers. I ran out of space a while ago.

I'd become an expert at storing gear over the years.

Our last house was just over 1000 sq. ft. Our new house is just under 3000 sq. ft.
I'm still storing extra gear in a spare bedroom even though my mancave is the size of a 2 car garage.
I do sell gear when the opportunity presents itself though.
Not actively searching out gear anymore for over a couple yrs now. I do still grab stuff that I happen to run across that I know I can flip and make a couple bucks.
I have a system in the bedroom/living room/man cave. Have enough left over to have maybe 7-8 more systems.
No more weekly thrift/KSL searching though. I'm happy with my system and don't want to leave my wife with the burden of getting rid of a bunch of things she has no interest in.

I ran out of space for over 30 years. Just bought good sounding boomboxes!! A LOT of boom boxes!!

Even a few mini-component systems. Worked for me just fine!

Portable too
- take them to the hotels. Rock on!!
