Hello from across the atlantic

DALEK S D L

Commander of New Skaro
Hi Guys and Gals.

Found myself here on AudioKarma via a link from a UK based Forum (THE ART OF SOUND). BOY THIS IS BIGGGG ! Compared to Audio Forums in the UK which have a lot less members than here.

Anyway I lurked for a bit....not long and decided to join. Looks like there is a fair amount here (understatement) to get my teeth into.

I am from Northern Ireland which is part of the United Kingdom(England+Scotland+Wales and Northern Ireland also known as Ulster). I used to be in the audio trade as the Manager of a specialist HI-FI shop (Store). The world wide down turn required staff to go and I was one of the number who were down sized out. The halt in new builds effected half of the business (Custom install) and lead to a reorganization. So I am on a career break (not voluntary), like many others in your neck of the woods.

I split my time between looking for a (real)job(not an easy proposition), writing on Audio Forums, listening to music and writing a novel(possibly not a real job until this opus gets published ?).

I look forward to getting to know some of you guys....

My systems. Having been in the trade I have a fair amount of kit (and not passing on much has led to two systems). The first is in a down stairs living room and the other in a small bedroom upstairs. Houses in the UK are built very differently to the states. Walls are brick construction with concrete floors and being a period house (Edwardian) of 1903 the ceiling are very high. I am blessed with quite good acoustics.

System One --Moon Andromeda cdp, Bat VK31 se Pre, Bat VK75 power amp, Bat VK 10se phono stage, Marantz SA 7, SME model 20 TT with Graham B44 arm, VDH Frog Gold cartridge, Msb Link Dac mk 3 (for HDCD), Leak Troughline vintage FM tube tuner+EAR FM Tube decoder, Audio Valve RKV2 Headphone Amplifier, Grado GR1000 Headphones, Nakamichi Cr5 Tape Deck. Cabling is a mixture of Audience AU 24 Rca to Rca, Atlas (a Scotish company) Marvos XLR to XLR and Speaker Cable. Power cables are Audience AU24, Analysis Plus power oval 2 and TCI Boa Constrictors (a Northern Irish company). Speakers are Anthony Gallo Ref 3.1.

Hi and welcome to AK. There's lot's of forums to visit not all audio related. Enjoy!

Oh and nice gear!

Holy crap ! Nice kit....I'll say !

I'm already planning my next vacation to come visit your town. I'll tell my wife there is a pub with 'special Guinness' and then we can just get to talking and, "oh my goodness, Dear. This nice local chap is into audio, too so tomorrow you go sightseeing and I'm going to check out his kit". You reckon there is any chance at all that will fool her for more than nanosecond?

Stick around as with our background I bet you'll be teaching us !

Cheers

Goodness what a system that is, how do you pronouce all that in simple english? Look forward to hearing and seeing more from across the pond, best of luck with the employment distraction.

Welcome to AK! Now that's a Kit!
Regards,
Jim
