Howdy. I turn 50 soon, and in an effort to tell my family something I’d like for my birthday when I have everything and don’t need anything, I had them get me a turntable and powered speakers. So I have a Fluance 81 and some Ai61 speakers en route via UPS.
I’ve been on various guitar forums for years, so I’m prepared for a little music snobbery, gear obsession, etc. I also come from the “if it sounds good to you, it IS good” school, and realize that twice the price doesn’t get you twice the sound after a certain point.
I’m new to vinyl as an adult, although as a child of the ‘70s, I’m very familiar and comfortable with the format. I stopped by my grandmother’s house yesterday and picked up about a dozen LPs I still had in her basement, from my teenage years when I’d buy the record, make a cassette copy and use that in the car and Walkman. I also picked up my dad’s old Kenwood receiver from the early ‘70s and my brother’s ‘90s-era subwoofer, which needed to be moved out as Granny gets WAY up there in years. Don’t know what I’ll do with them. I need to unload a lot of stuff! Too much stuff, not enough me. Somebody else should enjoy it.
Most of my listening is on Apple Music over a Klipsch The One II Bluetooth desktop speaker. I’m at sucker for midrange and vintage looks. But I remember the last time I a/b’d a vinyl and CD copy of the same album, I thought the vinyl was much more open and expansive. That was 30 years ago. Looking forward to reliving the magic again.
Thanks for having me!
