Help with a motor for a DIY RCM

Hello..well, I got a bug to build a Record cleaning machine. I have the VPI wand and mount, used turntable, etc...But I need a motor. So was shopping for DC motors or AC...and I haven;t a clue what size except shaft size..

I saw someone used a 15 RPM motor...well, I found something diffent so a few question

1) WIll this work ? MOTOR

2) Since its AC I gather I can power via an AC cord but how can I regulate / on / off and speed?

3) Better suggestions ?

It looks to spin a bit faster than 15 rpm.

I think what you are looking for is something closer to 5 rpm, a gear motor.
 
Synchron gearmotors used to be available in a multitude of torque and speed ratings.

Instead of driving it from the center, why not drive it from the perimeter where the disc speed will reduced and torque will be greater? Lacking an appropriate DC option, you could use AC with a single phase inverter.
 
This is the motor I used. Has a lot of torque, reversible and you can get a gearhead for the RPM that you need. Got this off ebay.

Thanks to all..In my seach and before I saw the posts I thought "Hey, rotisseree motor"...6 RPM..LOL..Great minds think alike...

I like DNPAINTING's motor but damn...looks like it could turn a band saw...LOL..Can't find one on ebay though...

Actually...I did find one HERE

But 50 bucks plus like 18 shipping...I can get the barbecue version for 23 , free shipping plus no wiring..lol..6 rpm, 20 lb torque

Well, you definitely can't stop it with your hand. Oriental Motor is what you type and it will come up. The gearhead is not exactly what you would call quiet though.
 
I run a 6rpm motor in my Vactrola RCM (can be found in my sig-line link). One, or at most, two revolutions, and the record is dry and ready for spinning.

I had used a motor from a bread maker, but it still spins a little too fast, and a dimmer won't work on it, so I was at a yard sale and they had a BBQ spit motor and I picked that up for a buck..

The motor the OP showed is 1050 RPM... wow.. that should sling the water off the record.. No vac needed.
 
I saved a motor from an old Ice Cream Maker for a RCM, but haven't used it yet. However, I read on one of the forums that somebody also used the same setup and was very pleased.

So ...

If I use a rotiseree motor at 2RPM..isn;t that a tad slow ? I saw an inexpensive Gelato Maker motor but have no clue what the RPM's are...uggg..LOL
 
Hit your local thrift and pick up an old icream maker. The motors spin slowly and have a lot of torque. They are also easy to mount since the frame has a mountig bracket
