My father-in-law is giving me an amp/preamp set someone gave him. I've not seen it yet but by his description I don't think it's vintage. I was hoping someone here might have some info, Orion, specs or opinions about this gear.
The amp in an Onkyo M-5150 and the preamp is an Onkyo P-3150v.
thanks so much,
Jeff

As I remember from selling Onkyo, these were the components from Onkyo's top end rack systems, circa 1992~1994. Decent specifications, maybe 100~120 WPC on the power amp, remote control preamp. Better than your garden variety rack system components, but not really competitive with stand-alone true separates.

That's another idea of where they came from. I kinda wondered.
As I mentioned at AA to your thread, I have a couple of Onkyo amps, and I think they sound fine. Onkyo makes some very nice gear.
Yours should probably sound pretty good, too. Worth a good listen, anyway.

when I left minnesota 5 years ago, I left I beleive was a M5090,dual monoblock amp,and P3090 super servo pre-amp, the amp had those big beautifull power meters and had 210 watts per channel at 8 ohms, weighed 70 lbs too--that was some of Onkyo's best equipment--my best friend loves me so much to this day--since I chose him to have it. " I miss that set-up too" the bird
