Help? Yamaha rx777 cd player works but not phono

Hello everyone, just picked up a yamaha rx777 and I'm trying to hook a turntable up to it. I connected it to the phono inputs and I'm getting no sound.I noticed the main in and pre out jumper pin were missing so I'm assuming that's why I'm not getting any sound coming from the unit? I have a boss cd player that I have hooked up to it though and I'm getting sound. Can anyone tell me whats going on? FM doesnt work either even through headphones

Yes, those MAIN IN and PRE OUT jacks need to be connected. Depending on where in the circuit those jacks appear, I could see the CD Direct button bypassing them, so that might explain why your CD works.

Since you don't have the jumpers, you can just use a stereo RCA cable temporarily. If that fixes it, you can make jumpers out of a short piece of 8 AWG solid (i.e. not stranded) bare copper wire (it's slightly larger than the middle pin in the plug, but should still fit). Or you can just leave the cable, I sincerely doubt you'd hear a difference if you have a good connection.

So I grabbed some 12 gauge copper, didnt know I needed 8 gauge. Either way it didnt work. Used some rca cables as well and it still didnt work. I dont know whats going on

Make sure the CD direct button is off.

If that doesn't fix it, then post a picture of the front and back as it's currently connected.

I might have found the culprit. This stylus doesnt sit all the way in the tone arm. Ive never used it before. It was on my technics 1200mk2 when I bought it and I immediately replaced it and it stuck it on this other turntable (the one I'm trying to get to work for my girlfriend). I cant even tighten it, I can just easily pull it out. I had taken this turntable to get serviced a couple of weeks ago and the tech never mentioned anything about the cartridge/stylus and I dont remember it coming off so easily. I'm going to take my 2m blue over to her place tomorrow and see if thatll fix the problem. I could hear some buzzing/hum coming from the speakers after messing around with it for a little bit but no sound. Hopefully this fixes it

You don't have the headshell fully attached. Just push the headshell into the tonearm and turn that little metal collar until it's tight. That might help!

For some reason the headshell wouldnt screw all the way onto tonearm. I took my 2m Blue over there and I was able to attach it no problem and I was able to get the receiver working. I have no idea how old that cartridge is, it came with my TT. I planned on replacing it anyways. I'm glad I was able to get it working though. Just need to buy her a replacement now
