Heresy II info needed

Iowa Tele

Music lover
Hi all,
I'm going to look at a pair of Heresy II's. The guy says they have Crites crossovers and Crites Titanium domes. Since i don't know the seller, is there any way to tell if these upgrades have been made without tearing the speakers apart?

Thanks in advance for your assistance

You have to open up the speakers and remove old crossover and tweeter to replace them. If that is tearing apart then yes the speaker was indeed tampered with better parts. It is definitely an upgrade from stock speaker. How much he is asking with all upgrades and stuff.

thanks @vaathi . Sorry, i wasn't clear.

I know how the upgrade is accomplished, I'm wondering if I can tell if the upgrades were done just by looking. Or would i have to remove the back and tweeter to verify?

Thank you, @vaathi . That's exactly what I need to know. In response to your other question he's asking $400 for the pair. Seems like a pretty reasonable price particularly with upgrades. In the pictures I've seen it's pretty hard to tell what the cosmetic condition is

Parts alone would have set him back close to 225. It is a good deal if the rest of speakers are fine. You can always refinish the speakers and they are not gonna be win any beauty contest how much ever you refinish them.

My thoughts exactly. I won't be able to see them til next week. Hopefully they will still be available.

fyi..........I scooped a pair of Klipsch Heresy 2's about a year ago from a local pawn shop (300 Can.) and have really been enjoying them as my daily speaks .I drive them with a Sansui 7070 and for the small size of my sound room I think the sound is tight and punchy but low in the bass when it counts. I have seen a couple pairs since and am struck at the somewhat sloppy application of the stain. Mine were the purple-ish stained walnut boxes but the front edges of both speakers definitely do not match. I think there was the option to buy them "raw" and finish them yourself so maybe that's the reason for the poor stain coverage. Good luck with yours eh?

IF you take the back off I would suggest taking some pipe tap0e, wrap around the mid horn body close to the drive, and then secure to the inside top with 1/2" wood screws. I have repaired several Heresy mid horns that when the cabinet gets dropped, the first thing to break are the mounting wings of the mid horn! Just a word of advice.......
