Hey I am new.. looking for advice on a receiver etc...

Hello friends... Stumbled accross this web site as I was looking up reviews for vintage receivers... I am looking to acquire a very affordable receiver and speakers... I am looking for advice on how to spend $50-$150 on a vintage receiver... In fact, I'd rather buy one from a new friend on this site than take the eBay risk... while I love eBay and have been an avid member since 2000, I am nervous buying audio equipment on it.

I have heard good things about marantz, rotel, luxman, nad, sansui etc... and I have been looking at these brands and others. Not sure whether to go 70's,80's90's or 00's.

I currently listen to my cds on a bose wave radio and my turntable is being powered through a JVC mini-system...

I need more power and help ;-) all this great music and nothing to hear it on...

Welcome Geoff. AK has a classified section where all buying, selling, giving away, etc. MUST be done.

Do you take advantage of yardsales, thrift stores, estate sales, etc. in your search for a receiver? Its a good place to start. Just be careful, it is a very slippery slope.

Good advice all around... time spent reading here is well spent when thrifting!
