Heybrooks off ebay

Hi guys,

Bought a couple of different speakers off the bay recently. One of the was the Heybrook HB2's. English bookshelfs from ca 1979 and what gave the Heybrook company their start. Smooth sound and very natural sounding midrange. Anyone else come across these before? Interested to hear you opinions.

I tried them on tall atacama stands and they seemed to be quite happy. Bit light on bass extension but that was expected. I think these will replace the mission 700's that are there now.

Great score Jack. The Heybrook speaker can be quite the sleeper on the market. In fact, about a year ago I was installing a home theater system for a customer. Was looking for a speaker that would set on a book shelf and be front ported. I looked and looked and came upont the Heybrook line. I can't remember now what model it was but I tell ya. When I went back to the customers home a month or so ago to help them with AVR controls I got to hear those speakers again after they had some hours on them and I tell ya what. I was real impressed with how this lil bookshelf was sounding.

Now I know that doesn't exactly address the model of speaker you found but it is my experiance with Heybrook.

Hmm I didn't realize Heybrook even made speakers.:screwy: I do know they make a very nice copy of a Linn Lp12 Sondek TT. I'd assume these speakers are similar in sound to other British makes like Rogers or B&W?

Found out the tweeter is a Audax unit which was quite popular at the time. Woofer is 6in.

Mike, AFAIK Heybrook started out as a speaker company with the HB2 which made quite an impact. Then they brought out the HB3 which was much larger and the HB1 which was smaller. They also brought out the Heybrook TT at some stage and there may have been two models. As you said, Linn-based and well received. Sound is indeed, English and I'd say more Rogers than B&W. Heybrook are still around making speakers only. Not sure how good te current range is but I see that they still have a HB2 model in the line-up.

Dave, Not sure if the one you saw was vintage or from the current range. The old HB2 (mine) is rear ported but what you saw could have been the old HB1. THe current HB2 is front-ported.

Oh no, they weren't vintage. They were from Heybrooks new lineup. I bought them for these people.
