HH Scott all in one unit no Radio

I came across this all in one unit. I kind of reminds me of the KLH all in ones.
Turntable spins and sounds fine.
But a.m. or FM radio I get nothing. Do you think I have to have the dial bulbs working for the tuner to work? I read somewhere some of the older units were like that.
Thx.

You have at least one bad electrolytic capacitor, it's puked its guts. Those black electrolytics should all be replaced in my experience.

Perhaps one shorted and took out the power supply for the tuner section. Find a schematic and start checking voltages.

Bulbs probably have nothing to do with tuner functionality but might share a power supply source. If that puked cap took out some of the supply it may be why the tuner and lamps are both out.

+1 on schematic time

Appreciate it guys. I'll see if I can find me a schematic. I know these aren't highly sought out, but they're kind of fun to work on... to a point.
The turntable sounds good for what it is.

hey that is a fun thing! I hadn't thought Scott had ever "stepped-down" to those kind of combo units. Domestic markets only, I suppose. I does look kind of attractive though, inside and outside. Yeh and no sound on either channel = power supply issues, probably from that bad cap. I assume the motor for the record player is an AC running straight of the the tranny, and therefore not affected. What is the model name?

ps. is there also an actual all-in-one version with say an 8-track in it as well? Would be a tight fit, but so cool..

I have had the KLH all in ones and this one is laid out better to work on. Looks like it is called a "Scotsman". No model # anywhere I can see. I'm gonna change out that cap and see if she will sing.

This little unit keeps me intrigued. hers a couple more pics of the bottom.
I changed a few of the large caps, a couple of them made popping sounds through headphones as I tapped or wiggled them. That has gone away now. It had a slight hum before which is now gone.
So it now sounds very good through phono, tape monitor and something on the input selector "extra", which is apparently an "aux" input. I love that name, "extra". I guess it means an extra input.
But still no radio, AM or FM, just silence. And I have probably maxed out my skill in troubleshooting this one. I learn more with each project I take on though.
