HH Scott PS-97 XV,my grail has arrived!

Hello... I am a new member, and I found this thread researching an old Scott TT. I value your opinions. I ran across a 100% working, mint condition PS-87A today on facebook. Guy is asking $250.00 It has a AT Series VIII linear cartridge and Series VIIIS stylus. Going to try to check it out this weekend. I will try to load some pictures. Thanks in advance.........Roy
Welcome to the group Roy!
Nice to know you found this thread interesting
That PS-87A you ran across looks very nice. If you get it,I'm sure you will enjoy the unit, they sound fantastic.
Thanks for the reply

Thank you...It appears this a great source for the sharing of information. I originally was just going to go new and not mess around with vintage equipment and the problems that occasionally arise. But the nostalgia and feeling that I just might be saving a 50+ year old turntable, 20 year old amp, and 20 year speakers that are still in great shape is just too great a temptation. Plus, I'm old and cheap and mechanically/electrically inclined enough to take that leap. Sometimes though I think I know just enough to be dangerous. You know the type....one that doesn't know what he doesn't know! :) But I am smart enough to know that!

The back story...
Just over a year ago I picked up a HH Scott 390 R receiver.
Shortly after I found the HH Scott Pro 100 B speakers.
So I decided to put together a top of the line HH Scott set from 1978-1979.
The search started,I found the 825 Z EQ and then the 830 Z analyzer.
In that year I only found 1 HH Scott tt for sale,it was a PS-87 A,but to expensive.
Just over 2 months ago I ran across another PS-87 A, affordable but needed some work. After almost a year of looking I was feeling like I would never find a PS-97 XV so I bought the PS-87 A and brought it back to life.
This HH Scott stuff is not easy to find.
About a month ago I started a thread looking for suggestions on a tab or handle to lift the dust cover on the PS-87 A, to avoid fingerprints.
3 weeks ago,not one but two PS-97 XV's showed up for sale from the same seller. I bought 1 and here we are today.
As soon as I seen the previous owner mounted handles on the dust covers I knew one of these were for me! lol
The seller told me,a couple twin brothers owned these tables. (they are no longer with us) rest in peace
The twin brothers wanted a way to be able to tell their tables apart so they mounted different knobs on the dust covers.
I'll guess one of the brothers bought these when he was in the service because the table I have, has his personal SS # and ID # engraved in the top of the motor housing and bottom of the platter just like service members are required to do.
The table is very clean and came equipped with an Empire 2000 Z cartridge with original stylus.
The knob on the dust cover will stay! I like it and feel it can honor the original owner.
My set is complete, found my grail and the original owners PS-97 XV has a great home!
Here's some pics,
thank you

So what made you decide to get a HH Scott turntable?
Those Empire 2000Z cartridges sound great too.
