So I have a pair of HH Scott S-100s from Habitat ReStore - $25. Wouldn't have given them a second look, except I've been looking for some age-appropriate speakers to drive with my (bought new - '66) HH Scott 340B, which is still going strong, despite some power supply damage from a blown JJ 7591 output tube. I'd post a pic but anyone who knows these speakers (the people I'm looking for) knows what they look like. Cabinets have had a hard life (probably salvaged from a dumpster), but they work, and sound great on my worktable, not yet connected to the 340B. A little mid-bass boxiness, but I'm hoping they'll respond well to some EQ. Low bass is surprising.
What am I looking for? Any info, insights or opinions from people who know this speaker, more recent than the 2008 posts that turn up in a search.

A lot of people might know them by sight rather than the model number, a pic is always a good idea if possible. HH Scott sometimes used different driver manufacturers for the same model too, so a pic with the grill covers off may be helpful as well.

Sorry to have gotten off on the wrong foot also.

My main speakers are KLH 5s, which I recapped, Dynaco A-40XLs, supplemented by more recent Polk RT-400s (sort-of my subwoofers)

I was looking at a pair of Wharfedale W60s to drive with my Scott 340B receiver (bought new, pictured in the avatar), but they were in poor condition and the owner wanted $100 for the pair.
I lucked onto the Scott S-100s at the Habitat ReStore, where a friend of mine works. Thought they ought to be a good match for the receiver.

Seems the most recent wisdom on these is in the 2008 thread by Jimbofish et. al.
I'll continue to pursue this, and I WILL post pics...

Mine, though the grilles are in great shape (the cabinets, not so much), don't have the Scott logo. I'll probably be looking for a pair. I had to look at the speaker bottoms to find out what they were.

For sure! Try researching Wharfedale W60s...Wharfedale presented a good front (still some of my favorite-looking speakers) but their shop must have been chaotic!

So I decided to stop dithering about trying to get information and just go ahead and put them into service. Grabbed the Old English Scratch Cover, some gel stain and Minwax wood patch to try to make them look presentable (my wife had actually called them UGLY - can you imagine that!). I explained their historical significance, but that was lost on her...
Anyway, they are now hooked up to the 340B. I had been impressed with them in my garage test setup (Kenwood '90s 100 watt receiver) but I wasn't prepared for this! I expected muted highs (who uses 5" paper cone tweeters, anyway?) and muffled/boomy bass. What I got was smooth, tinkling highs and low bass that shakes the room. I've applied some EQ, of course, never go anywhere without that, and they've responded very well.
Somebody in one of the '08 posts said they'd probably be mediocre, that electronics companies (HH Scott), generally don't make great speakers.
The S-100s put the lie to that! They and the 340B must have been made for each other - I think I could listen to them all day. Just hope the tubes and caps hold out...

And if no one reads/responds to this, at least I got it off MY chest.

Oh - and old Herman Hosmer knew what he was doing after all!
