My wife is something else. One for putting up with my Sansui obsession, currently sporting 3 systems in the house and one (AU-777a) on permanent display. ( To be hooked up on rare occasions as a jar dropper if someone questions if it this old transistor relic still works)
She toletates them but doesn't in particular appreciate any of the Sonic virtues. Yet she has impecable taste in most all other areas. If something is not authentic she will pick it out way before I do...people, food, music, art, you name it. She is a diamond in the rough, grew up in the remote highlands of Peru, but ended up in the U.S as an accomplished psychotherapist. With a background in salsa dancing at a semi-pro level she prefers the sound of live music. That is loud and in your face.
So tonight I opened up the faucets a bit on the 999 and got her attention as I tested out a new Pandora station "Poncho Sanchez" - she came in and without further due began to dance like I've haven't seen for decades. - The tripple nine ripping, - bass lines succinct and percussion wonderfully separated with a horn section to match. All in all I got about 30 min of salsa dance performance. Then by the end, a tired " wow..this sounds really... really good".
Never heard that before. But I know it's a compliment, that doesn't come easy.
