It's cosmetically exceptional for its age; I bet the buyer was local. Maybe Dad had one.
 
Increased interest means increased price, then maybe someone actually wants to entertain in style. Plug-in and play without caring how good it is. Or just great for older kids still around the house that are not allowed to have earbuds. It’s only an amount of time before groups of people start listening to music together needing a cabinet stereo for entertainment.
 
Completely in line with the prices for the PioMarSui receivers these days. 10 bucks a watt that is just stupid high for those units, just like this console. But the power light works and as stated someone might have thought getting a working unit was better than spending 150+ at a shop to get something going.
 
Wild guess but I suspect nostalgia played a part.
As mentioned, buyer may have had family who had that same console back in the day.
