How much Dac Do I need?

Good Day,
I rip CD's to a mac mini with iTunes as Apple Lossless 44.1 kHz . Currently I'm using a Schiit Modi 2. My question is, would I benefit from an upgraded dac since I'm "locked in" to the CD's restrictions?

Not really unless you start downloading some DSD files. The Schiit Modi 2 will process lossless files up to 24 bit / 192 hHz.

You aren't locked in to the CD rip specification. I'd start looking around for some higher resolution lossless files you can add to your library. I believe iTunes will process other file codecs such as FLAC. You will want to verify that for yourself of course.

I don't bother with DAC's that play anything but redbook as I've found that the quality of the DAC itself makes a far bigger difference than going to DSD. The Abbas Audio range of DAC's from the Ukraine offer superlative performance.
