How to "Extract" / remove Speaker from Enclosure

Have removed the grille... and taken out 4 phillips head screws from the corners of the speaker... but, the speaker remains tightly in place in the enclosure... a little prying results in no movement at all...

WHAT is holding it in place??? Thanks.

Honestly, make and model would really help a lot. Not all makes are held in place the same way.

Working with a DQ subwoofer I left the speaker face down and after a day or two it came out all on it's own. If you go that route, just remember to leave the screws partially threaded in just in case the surround sticks out further than the frame or gasket (if it has one).
 
Sometimes they can be tight, especially if the cabinet has swelled a bit. I used to have a shortened angled pick that you can buy in any tool store. Hook it in the screw hole and slide it under the frame carefully, then gently pull up. If you get some movement, move to the next hole and bring it up some more, if not move to the next hole an try again, you will eventually get it to move up. I've never had one that stuck before.
 
Sorry... for some reason the image of the BW speaker in situ didn't get into the post... this is mounted in a ceiling into a metal enclosure... trying again here:

I recall a similar issue with a ceiling mounted enclosure :yes:...

I believe the mounting plate has a retention bracket that mates to the screws and will release when the screws are turned and released.

The designers probably thought this would aid in mounting and securing the speaker in a ceiling/wall.

Not sure if this helps.. But I think this where the removal problem lies.

It may help to "google" the manufacturer and get the installer instructions.
