How to spruce up Dynaco A25 cabinets

Howard's is a remarkable product. No sanding, just brush on (even though the directions say to not apply it directly), rub with fine steel wool, wipe off excess.
It pulls the old color from within and leaves you with a nice non-glare finish.
I use the walnut color on everything, it's not a stain, it's lightly pigmented.

tried some howards (bought at menards) on some old AR2ax cabinets I have....was very impressed with the results.
I placed the EPI , upside down, on top of the Dynaco.
I felt like each speaker kind of made up for the deficiencies of the other.
I had the A25 XL and found it a wonderful speaker with a midrange to die for. The latest XL version used an improved tweeter and crossover too. I never found mine deficient in the highs or lows with modern electronics.
Remember the single cap in the crossover is 35 years old and should be replaced. If you can solder you can improve its performance by replacing the cap with a Solen Fast Cap for about $5 each and while your at it up grade the wiring to a nice 14 gauge OFC wire.
As far as finishing, yours has a nasty water stain and should be sanded, stained, and top coat of tung oil or one light coat of poly.

they both use 10" woofers, and the a25 is in too small of a box.
put the dynaco woof in the epi box, throw away the dynaco tweeter,
box, and cap. throw away the epi woofer and cap. get a soniccap
5 uf cap for the new speaker. adjust the damping and vol. in the new
large cabinet.
best of both worlds. the epi tweeter is definitely up to the job since it
is called upon to go even lower in the epi design.
let me know if you do it, and if you like it.

combination.
I had a chance to buy IMF speakers from a thrift but foolishly passed.
I had a Grace f9 that was given to me; supposedly it did not work.
I could not test it cause it wouldn't fit my pins on a MMf 5 TT. I sold it
on audiogon for its stylus and the owner reported that there was
nothing wrong with the cartridge.

Not true. The Dynaco employs an aperiodic enclosure, which uses a damped port, a cross between a seal box and a ported box.
As far as the tweeter, if the highs are rolled off for you get the modern SEAS drop in replacement from Madisound.
Myself I found the Dynaco balance of sound sublime for a mid '70s speaker. Sounded great w/ late '70s Sansui, modern Denon, and modern tube amplification.
