How to test 7355 tubes

I have a HK A500 and would like to test the 7355 tubes--it has not been powered up, so I'm basically looking for shorts, and non-functioning tubes. I have a Heathkit TC-1 tube tester that's pretty old (about 1949 or so), and doesn't show the 7355 tube. It does show the settings for a 6L6. Any idea of what tube setting would be equivalent to the 7355?

No idea for the TC-1 tester, but for a Hickok 6000A. . .

The closest one I could find was a test for the 7591.

Switch settings were nearly the same except for the screen, you'd also need to raise the bias number slightly from 10 to 12, and the shunt setting would need to be raised from 89 to 91. 6.3 volts to the heaters.


7355 switch settings:

HS-6385-0 (Function - A)


7591 switch settings:

HS-6345-0 (Function - A)


Hopefully these numbers will help you determine the settings for testing on the TC-1. Unless, of course, the TC-1 does not have test numbers for a 7591, either.

Check 'Franks Tube Pages' @ www.tubedata.org. It may be the equivelant of a 6V6 but I can't download his PDA pages for some reason.

The 7355 has load, screen and bias settings like a 6L6GC, on a 7591 pinout.

That should be close enough to test ANYTHING on a 7355...

Yup........ The test scores maybe slightly skewed but this will give you shorts and leakage results perfectly which is the important test. That is if you have 7591 data for your tube tester.

My Heathkit does not have settings for the 7591 tube. I do have coming, as soon as it's calibrated, a B&K 707. I'll just wait for it. Meanwhile I got impatient and powered the A500 up without checking the output tubes (after recapping). Powered up slowly with the Variac, and no pops, no smoke, just beautiful music.
