HPM-40 Woofs?

I have some HPM-40 That need new surrounds for the 10" (both just ordered PE) my question is I just bought the gutz from some HPM-40 From Superdog, (a stand up guy, no question) The woofer he sent me has accordian surround not foam. Did Pioneer have two series of 40's, one w/foam and one w/Accordian? are they interchangeable? Are the 10's in my 40's Bogus?

I had a pair of HPM 40's couple of years ago. They did not have foam surrounds but I'm not sure what surrounds they did have, I think accordion. But I know they weren't foam.

Yep. I've owned both. I have a vague recollection that the newer accordion surrounded woofer requires a slightly bigger hole in the baffle. And that the port lengths differ slightly suggesting that there a bit of an acoustic difference between the woofers (the cab volume, I believe, is the same). I could be completely full of **** on both counts, though.

superdog supports the two different woofers theory as well. as I said I have new surrounds on the way (first time attempting new surrounds but I hear its not all that difficult, i'll find out I guess)
