I actually saw a Metregon today

but I didn't have my camera with me. Was out and about today and was at an estate sale where they had a Metregon. Someone had snapped it up for $1900. I wish they had it hooked up to the receiver, surprisingly a blackface Yamaha RX-450. Can't say how it sounds but it certainly is a beautiful piece of furniture

no that was it unless the buyer of it snapped up other hardware and took it with him. This piece was pristine. What was weird I saw the Yamaha receiver and was looking around for speakers and then I realized what was there Unless you know its a speaker you just think it's a beautiful piece of cabinet work
 
I saw three in one place once. One stacked right on top of the other with pads to protect them. In the same place I also saw two pairs of Hartsfields and just about every other super collectible vintage audio item you can imagine. The guy had two WHEREHOUSES filled from top to bottom with stuff. It was mind blowing... One day I'm going to get around to telling that story here.:yes:

But really, that is too cool! I look at that speaker system the same way I look at a Shelby Cobra - perfect in all of their flawed and limited, raw power, poetic beauty. Even if a person had the cabinetry skills to build a Metragon, how would one go about sourcing the drivers without breaking the bank? That is an amazing system you saw and I am glad that you could appreciate it.

are you talking about one of your audio wet dreams? :D

i had one where i was in this forest and european output tubes of various kinds grew on the trees.

No... This was the real deal. I sold something to a guy on ebay and dropped it off to him at his warehouse. Like I said, one day I will get around to telling the whole story here. To be honest I wouldn't even know where to start. It would take me an hour just to type out half the stuff that I saw in his place. He had AT LEAST two of every kind of McIntosh amp and pre that I've ever seen. It was the same with Thorens turntables... He had at least two of every one I've ever heard of and a lot of them that were special edition ones that I didn't even know existed. I think he had four pairs of Tannoy reds and 6 or 7 pairs of Tannoy golds and 8 or 9 Marantz 8b's sitting on the floor in one of the offices. The places were literally FILLED with the highest end vintage audio gear you could ever hope to see. The guy had JBL .075 bullet tweeters laying all over the place. I think if I had to guess I would say I saw over 100 of them just lying around. He's an asian guy who's place was in Gardena, California. I've often wondered if any other AKers have been to his place. It was truly an amazing experience. Supposedly the guy buys all this stuff and he keeps some of it for himself and ships some of it off to his freinds in Japan.
 
oh, yeah....i've heard about such operations before. i've seen how much they go for in japan and korea. sometimes 10x. :yes:

you do get some deals on Japanese made goods though, right? like alps attenuator if you ever need 'em. i spend $36 for a pair a few weeks ago. :thumbsdn:

my friend's uncle lives in korea and he tells me that a good pair of AR2ax go for something like $500 - $800.:yikes:
