I have been a long time lurker and I enjoy the post, pictures and the help that has been provided by some really great people on here. With the help of the forums I have assembled what I hope the be the final build out for my audio equipment. I say that while shopping for a new turntable, lol!!!! Enablers.... all of you. LOL!!!!
My system is built around a Marantz 2270 with the black faceplate that I have almost completely recapped so far. I have not done the phono board because I didn't have a table to test when I did the original recap work and it has worked fine after getting my table up until the other day when a channel cut out and stopped working so its on the bench again.
Realistic 31-2000A Equalizer (I have to say thank you to the forum for the diagrams on hooking this thing up in my system. It wouldn't be so hard if the companies used one set of vocabulary between devices or even if Marantz would use the same language between the front face plate and the rear inputs/outputs.). I do not have the controls set to the smily face playing position. I actually have a Ortofon setup LP that I used to fine tune the speakers to my listening environment so the system is dialed in quite nice. Granted that was through the TT but it is better than going at it blindly.
My digital players include a -
TEAC CD-P650 CD/MP3 Player (thank you for this lovely suggestion it sounds amazing even through its own headphone jacks)
Sony MDS-JE330 MiniDisc. I have throughly enjoyed toying with the MiniDisc and copying music to them and printing labels and turning them into their own hobby. (Yes I know there are other better sounding and much cheaper solutions but I like the form factor of the Minidisc)
Android tablet with a copy of all of my music in MP3 format. The tablet actually sounds quite nice and I enjoy the user interface of the music app and I like being able to play my audiobooks through my set up from the same device, not to mention the streaming services. The tablet also allows me to play FM though IHeartRadio since I can not pick up FM at my location and what I can tune in I don't want to listen to the talking head thats on all the time. So the Android tablet works quite nicely for me.
Last is my Turntable. I do not have a fancy thing but I do have a nice modded one that sounds fantastic to me.
Audio Technica At-Lp120-USB. I followed the thread with all of the mods for the TT and while I am not a expert nor do I have anything to compare my listening experience to I have zero complaints about the sound quality of the little turntable that could. I am sure there are other options that perform better but my hearing isn't 100% so its all diminishing returns for me anyway.
I am still using the stock cartridge that came with the TT but that was mainly because I knew what it sounded like and it gave me a known base to work from for sound quality as I did the mods to the table. Now that they are done I am shopping for a new cartridge. Probably either a Ortofon Red or Blue 2M cartridge. I think anything more than that is over kill for my setup and my diminished hearing.
Speakers.
Polk Audio TSi200. I have 4 of these set up in my listening space although I tend to only use 2 of them for about 90% of my listening. I do however enjoy the room filling sound that the 4 speakers provide.
Headphones are a pair of Beyerdynamic Dt 770 Pro. Once again not the best or most expensive but they work for me and I enjoy the sound quality.
I enjoy the hobby and my little setup. It's not anything special or expensive, especially compared to some of the postings I have seen on here but, I enjoy the sound quality and it fit well within my budget.
