Definitely not Aristocrats,which aren't square
but made for corner placement.
They look cool though.
If price is right snag them and report back?

From the level controls at the top left of the grilles, they look like custom made cabinets probably containing 12TRXB or 15TRXB (can't tell the scale from the pic) coax drivers.

Regards,
Gordon.

Judging from the tools on the bench at the bottom left of the pic, they look like 12" drivers. So most likely 12TRXBs Those should sound good but a bit lacking in the midrage.

Not yet, i wanna open em up first. I like your avatar, i like em big tooo lmao and ugly.

That avatar is disgusting, oh, back to the thread, I had those same type of cabinets at the AK Fest, probably kits sold by Allied Radio for EV speakers.

See page 48; 1960 Radioshack Catalog

That box bears a very strong resemblance to an EV Aristocrat - including the cutouts for the horns.

I hear the fronts on these slide up to remove?? :scratch2:

The front speaker baffles are removable, that might explain differences, mine have a 16" Altec 416-8C, JBL driver on the horn, and Wolverine tweeter, JBL L100 crossovers, tried a JBL 123A woof but not enough efficiency with the JBL 2407 horn driver. :D

Marquis

Weren't these called The Marquis ? Same size as the Aristocrat, but not a corner type.Almost all these older designs by EV,that I have seen there is a piece in the bottom held in place by 4 or 5 screws. Remove those and the front grille slides downward. You have to lay the speakers on their back preform this action.

COOL, Good info. Assuming the woofs are in good shape are they worth 125. i would like to add a pair of classic ev speakers to the collection. Or should i wait on something better ? I run into speakers all the time, and this is only the second pair of decent evs i have come across

I'd check what kind of drivers they are first, seems a bit high priced to me but who knows? :scratch2:

sp12

If they have sp12's with the chrome basket. Not the sp12 B. They are worth the $125.00 Sp 12's go for over 100.00 each on a regular basis on the bay.
If they are 12 txr's they sould be worth the $ also. From what I have seen,
Those cabinets can't be duplicated for that amount of $.
As always it depends on what you like. :D

Hmmmm

..Ya know, the more I look at the original pic,the more interesting this becomes.
The back may come off of those. I don't know how you could slide the grill in any direction. The post from the pot would be in the way.I think maybe the Aristocrats open from the front because of the shape of the back. :scratch2:
My front baffles are black. So it is not so easy to I.d the driver set up.
Looking at those, unless the baffle is light colored, and the cut out plugs dark. :scratch2: I see a woof, a mid horn, and a horn tweet. Looking closely I don't think its a trx. But that would explain the single control.
Could be anything from University,to EV,to Altec inside.
One of my Aristocrats had an SP12 and a T 35 tweet, one pot. The other had a University 12'' diffusicone, and two university horn, but 2 pots.

great observation

The cabs look DIY to me. The HF controls are not in the exact location on both speakers...

Im glad someone caught that, thats definitely proof its a diy speaker and a great bargaining tool. thanks guys. I cant see them till sunday, the owner went out of town. but ill see them when he returns and id the drivers. The cabinets are about the right size, as im running out of room here in the mancave. I sure hope there are horns in them. :scratch2:

They look like EV Marquis to me at least in my catalog. They werea kit and are 29 5/8 tall, 19 wide and 14 1/2 deep. According to the catalog: (Performance similar to the Aristocrat. Ideal for stereo pairs. Accepts all 12" loudspeakers.) Just a guess.
