I feel sorry for the Noob eBay buyer who ..

Morden2004

Relaxin'
bought this yesterday:

sansui vintage SX-1130 AUDIO VIDEO RECEIVER LOADED 450w
Silver regionless COAXIAL + VIDEO + STEREO IN/OUT LOOK Item number: 5802154792

The seller goes on to say:

Wow, this is one heck of a receiver! This happens to be one of the 1st and most fabulous AUDIO VIDEO RECEIVERS IN HISTORY!

Well, not!

This is a mid 1980's 'plastic-era' Sansui 1st generation AV receiver and, like all the other Japanese manufacturers at the time, was an attempt by Sansui to keep their business afloat amid the rapidly falling value of the Yen. It was a fair receiver but not in the same league as those 70's receivers.

Previous to this sale, the average eBay sale of an S-X1130 was $85.

THis unit was "snatched up" by a 0-feedback bidder on a BIN (are you sitting down?) of .........

$ 500!

Ouch.

I bet this will never hold up. . . I see the newbie joined eBay Aug 24 05 (yesterday). . .

Something fishy here. I wonder how that seller has a 99.8%pos FB as well. . . What a piece of crap. You would think he would take a damp rag to it at least. . .

I like the part where he said the last one sold for 135.00 broken. . . That proves they are rare and valuable. . .I had to leave the auction site as the longer I read the madder I got, wanted to send him a letter myself. . . .

This is exactly what buyers you avoid. . . What is wrong with eBay?? They let assholes like this live. . .SAD. . .Real SAD. . .

While the seller may be a jerk, most of the blame must lie with the buyer. A lot of sellers on eBay exaggerate their listings - or post stupid stuff like wattage on the back of a receiver.

The old adage should change from:

Buyer BEware

to

Buyer be Aware

The buyer has access to the internet, so there is no excuse not to research before you buy.

Just my $.02

I heard there is this great site where people are just thrilled to give out prices to new users...AudioDogma or something like that!

I'd avoid taking price quotes from that Justen guy though...he's an idiot! Or at least the king of erroneous misinformation...

It has already been relisted...I'm personally fond of the "old school" mic input. Err, you mean 1/4 standard input? And it is "the ultimate bootleggers unit" because you can do tape to tape....and I thought Napster was the ultimate bootleggers unit!

ebay is like any facet of life to me. Its a good tool for finding stuff you need, but watch your @ss! dont want to be ripped off?, the onus is on you to make sure you dont get taken for a ride. I dont blind buy anything, much less big ticket items without doing homework. It was one of the reasons for joining this forum. I didnt buy anything without running it by the guys here.

$500.00 for that piece of sh*t !!
Ebay sucks....buyers suck and sellers suck....Ok Ok just 99.5 %
Every AK member using Ebay is OK.......the rest suck.

Use Bay to find deals

I learned a lot from Bay user who picked up electric scooter my kids grew tired of and stopped using. It took up a lot of space in my work shop so it had to go. She got scooter for a awesome deal since few people bidded as shipping limited by item pickup. I researched her history and found out she only pays 5-10 cents on the dollar of every item won compared to price when they were new. Use bay to find deals & don't get caught up in bidding. I have found Bay very unstable on prices of same items at different times listed. I have now calculated my max bid AS MY ABSOLUTE final bid and don't vary from this. Also sets budget for spending.

I agree. That is the only safe way to survive on eBay - and I'm an eBay survivor. I've have received only 2 crappy units in well over 100 buy & sell transactions and I've never been stiffed on my sells. I too set a MAX BID target for anything I bid on and walk away if I'm out bid with no hard feelings (except when it's a Sansui G-series receiver  ).

eBay seems to have become kind of corrupted (or maybe it's the users that have become corrupted... hmmm... :scratch2:) over the last 6 or so years. Then again, the internet as a whole has been hijacked by commerce. Sometimes I long for the days when you could perform a search and not get advertisements as 80% of the results. They've taken a massive library, and turned it into a massive mall.

I don't feel for the noob at all. Maybe that's callous of me but with all the information out here available with the click of a switch, it's nobodys fault but his.

I got burned ONCE, the very first purchase i made many moons ago...... being the type i am now when i buy something i ask about 50 questions and get about 50 pictures, you have to today!!!! I still feel badly for people out there, it should work properly but because of a few scumbags it does not sometimes, very very sad if ya ask me!!!!
