I hate the eBay cookies here!

I am using IE7 and have it set to prompt me whenever someone is trying to place secondary cookies on my system. If it is some BS spam site, I can click the box to permanently block all cookies from that site, but of course with eBay, permanently blocking them means I could never log into eBay again.

So when I browse around this site I get the message every time I change pages, that is, every few seconds! The website "eBay.com" has requested to save a file on your computer called a cookie...

I don't mind the advertising, but why do they have to place cookies on my computer all the time?

They are trying to keep track of everything you look at so they can offer you similar items at various times. It's a clever and sometimes annoying marketing/sales tool.

In Safari (Mac, Windows ought to be similar) I have checked the box to "Accept cookies only from sites I visit; block cookies from third parties and advertisers." Never had any problems with eBay or anything else I do online.

If it says that "e-bay wants to set a cookie"..they probly are session cookies and expire after a certain amount of time...AK does it also...thats how it knows when you have new posts..

I still would set IE to block all third party cookies...

I don't mind the cookies but the advertising drives me nuts. Tack Adblock Plus onto Firefox and no more ads. Plus there's other cool stuff you can add to Firefox like the Last.FM plug-in. I never knew how much I hated IE until I stopped using it.

There's 2 ways to fix the problem... 1. either set your browser to automatically accept all cookies from ebay, or 2. uninstall IE7... it's the worst browser MS has ever produced and has been a nightmare for millions... go back to IE6 and you'll sleep better at night.

Better yet, just use Firefox. I haven't used IE in over 10 years. Never regretted it either.

Agreed...still using IE-6...and no problems at all.. Hell...my stuff is so far behind I dont even use an anti-virus anymore...all the holes I have have been plugged so the malicious people don't even try to get through them anymore... they go after the new holes in the new versions of everything...
