I have finally got one...

I've been having a hard time grasping how huge this is, but it's been dawning on me. I just got a SX-1980.

The story behind it: My friend Brian, or snidebj, got a line on this SX-1980, working except for a problem with scratchy controls. He asked my opinion of it and whether he should get it or not, I was like heck yes!! Long story short, he got it and found it was too big to fit where he listened to music, so he offered it to me, for the same price he paid for it! It's now in the process of being packed and sent here, and I'm going to be a nervous wreck until it gets here safe and sound. Here are a few teaser shots of it, it's about as mint as a used 1980 can get. A huge thank you to Brian for letting me have it at the price he paid for it, you are the man!

I don't even particularly WANT one o' the damthings & I woulda given THAT...In a heartbeat...(grin)

This is the home the SX-1980 was going to have but I didn't realize or consider the size! The SX-980 is tight and the SX-1010 that I'm having some issues with just squeezes in here. So, now you are the new keeper of the "holy grail". Have fun with her and the restore.

Nice. Although I have a pristine 1250 always on the lookout for the big dog. Every bit as capable as my spec2 rig in speaker torture duty.

I am going to be doing a restoration equal to or greater then the one I did to the SX-1250 I have, so I will be posting a lot of pics, don't worry!

Man you are the luckiest dude I have ever seen. I have been looking for an affordable 1980 for years and haven't even seen one let alone got the chance to buy it.

If you happen to see another one some day and want to pass a little good karma my way, remember me.

Why don't you begin a non-profit "Magical Matt's Music Museum" and feature the entire Pioneer SX line up?

After all, you've pretty much acquired all of them so far . . . right?

But, the ever elusive SX-1280 has still so far managed to escape your grasp . . . :music:

I am working on that right now. I have the complete line of 80 series now. The rest isnt going to be that hard.

Thanks for all the kind comments guys, I feel really privileged to have found one of these at such a great price.

Let's see, I own or have owned (* means I still own):

SX-434
SX-450*
SX-525
SX-626 (2)
SX-636 (2)(*1)
SX-650 (3)(*2)
SX-680 (3)(*1)
SX-690 ("Euro" black-faced version of the 680)*
SX-727
SX-737*
SX-828*
SX-838*
SX-850 (2)(*1)
SX-890 ("Euro" black-faced version of the 880)*
SX-950
SX-1010 (2)*
SX-1250*
SX-1980*

So quite a few, but not all yet. And that's just the receivers.

This is just a hunch, but even after the SX-1980 is fully recapped and restored, I think you'll still prefer the overall sound quality of the SX-1250. I have no basis here... just a hunch.
