Woke up with this song stuck in my head this morning. Remember hearing it fairly often on FM back in the day, late '60's - early '70's. Musta been the Dave Edmunds version, I guess, after looking it up. Off to MOG to have a listen...

that is great single! there is a Little Richard song which is similar, always wondered if they used to be the same song.

Yep, that's the version I remember. Great slide guitar thing goin' on, kind of an R&B / Rockabilly groove.

It's the Dave Edmunds version that got me into this song. I like the Smiley Lewis, too. The Little Richard tune is really a different song, but maybe they are different takes on old blues lyrics.

If you listen closely to Dave Edmunds' version, you can hear him calling out Smiley Lewis and Chuck Berry.
