I know about yellow snow, but yellow glue?

I've been looking around at surrounds and glue advertised on the net. The guys who sell surrounds with the white glue slam the yellow glue and the guys who sell yellow glue slam the white "elmers" glue. Everyone claims their stuff is the best and dries clear. I've always used the white glue and never had a problem. What's up with this "special" yellow glue?

I've done it with white glue too.

No clue why the yellow would be better. Is it Elmers yellow glue?

The white has worked fine on the ones I've done. Got a couple of refoams over 3 years old that I still use.

I've used white glue (Elmers), yellow glue , red glue (JBL), black glue (EV), clear glue (Waldom/Image)... and it ALL worked fine.

I use more white glue than anything, tho... it gives me the opportunity to really get things lined up nice and pretty, and I mostly see paper-cone woofers. If I'm working on a poly cone, and I don't have a good "left-over film" of the original glue, I wouldn't use white glue... that's when I'd go for something more "bitey" like contact cement, JBL or Waldom glue. Otherwise, white glue does the job.

Don't let anyone get you worked up over it tho... when used properly, they all work.

I've used WeldBond as I saw the bottle in the background of the Decware slide show on speaker repair. It's white and works fine.

But most of my jobs are done with nasty old, dangerous as all get out, solvent-based contact cement because there is no clamping time.

No second chance either, but after a while you get the hang of it.

I ran across this loctite information when I was looking for glue to sick the rubber surrounds of an ADS speaker back down to the frame.

Loctite supplies a whole range of products for speaker manufacturers. I was able to buy what I needed, in a reasonable size container from McMaster-Carr.

Thanks LBPete - just printed the 36 page guide. Lots of info there. For now, I'll just keep using the white glue I have on hand.

Last pair I did I bought some Elmers clear all-purpose glue, it looks and smells just like silicone chaulking. Doesn't dry too fast but sets up rather quickly in 20 minutes.
