I need help deciding on a TT

I've heard not so great things about the Fluance, what's wrong with vintage. I have electro-mechanical background and want a very nice table that has the potential to sound better than a new table that's considerably more, if I have to fix some stuff that's okay.

I was pushing nothing and showed no bias. What part of "if going new" did you not understand.

If you listen to the majority of posts on AK the vintage uber alles bunch is the loudest and most prolific. The same folks have the same complaints about anything that isn't vintage, especially TT's. If everyone listened to them no one would be buying any new gear. Maybe it's my age but I stay away from most vintage gear because I have no desire to clean and/or fix anything. Much of the heavily coveted "vintage" gear I didn't want when it was new. I could have bought just about any of those popular receivers speakers or TT's. I chose to go with separates then (1970) and continue to do so. Box type speakers haven't seen my listening room since 1976.

FWIW: I have a mix of gear that ranges in age from the middle 70's to within the last three months. All of it was bought new. My TT is a heavily modified VPI HW-19 from the middle 80's. It replaced a Micro Sekai DQ-43, which replaced a RS Lab 400 which replaced a Benjamin Miracord (forgot model number). I've keep the DQ-43 as a spare. As for technical ability; I'm a retired EE.

Sorry if I came off crass, with my limited budget, I'm trying to piece together a decent mid-fi system that'll sound great to my ears. So far I'm happy with my purchases, new Yamaha AS701 integrated amp, Polk SDA2bs, Oppo BDP-83 as a universal player, and now this Denon DP1200, I have two other tables but they aren't of this quality.
