ICEpower amplifiers

Anyone ever heard one? There seems to be several high end amplifiers now using this tech. I.E. Bel Cantro, rotel and up.

I think it is B&O full-range Class-D technology. I have used some car amps that use these ICEpower chips.

In the car audio realm I have used the Pioneer and Alpine full range versions and have not liked them as much as traditional A/B amps, but that is very likely due to alpine and pioneers implementation.

Moving this to Modern Day Hi Fi, where it is a better fit. I have Bel Canto M300 power amps, and I love them - best amps I've heard. I've also listened to some others, and had the Winsome Mouse Amp here to try (do a search, there's a thread on it). I think that this technology is great in its best implementations to date, and I think that manufacturers are still relatively early on the learning curve. Even better, I could actually see the decline in our electric bill.

Thanks for moving it to the proper forum.

I was looking at D-sonic Ice power amp. For the $, it seems like it is too good to be true.

I wish a place locally would have one to listen to but, this person sells direct.

I almost forgot the D-sonic one I was looking at is rated at 500 per in 8 and 1000 in 4. I want to drive a set of carver original amazings and the person that builds them actually answers the phone. He states that it WILL drive them without any isues. All of this in a 18 lb amp almost seems too good to be true.

I looked up the Winsome Mouse. Great review. I never would have thought it would have been that clean of a amp.

Don't forget about the various other Class-D offerings, such as Channel Islands Audio. I own their D-200 monoblocks, which use Hypex modules, and absolutely love them.

I have listened to the Bel Canto Ref1000 amps, and they are quite a treat. 500 watts of power at your fingertips in a tiny, clean package.

I've heard Henry Ho's H2O monobloc's on Apogee Scintilla's, 1 ohm Scintilla's.
They never broke a sweat, sounded great, and were dead silent. (no detectable hum/noise of any kind)

If I could afford a pair I'd buy em.

I have a PS Audio Trio C-100 ICEpower integrated for use with Polk LSi9's. A LM3886 gainclone amp with Transcendent Grounded Grid tube preamp is also used. Soundwise, I prefer the gainclone/tube preamp. The C-100 is better-looking, easy to use (no waiting for tube warmup and turning on a separate power amp) and the remote control is appreciated. Can't decide which will get more time in the system.

I have the same basic setup with a modded version of the Trio C-100 and the LSi9's. The Trio is definitely easier to use with the remote, but I'm still a bit partial to warmth of tube sound. I find ICE power to be a bit sterile in comparison.

I made a trade for a set of ICEpower 500ASP modules last year but have not set them up yet. Supposedly they are terrific & why I got them; we'll see....

The patent is expiring with b&0 very soon. Those ice amps will be everywhere when this happens. They have great performance and are cheap and efficiant.

I have a Rotel RB-1092 (500 w/ch), now for a year and a half. Very happy with this purchase. A very musical (although soudstage is not exceptionally wide) that has great bass response. I love the size and coolness of this amp since I have it in a confined area.
