Depends upon the source being used. And then whatever I think is good might not be to another listener. My apologies if you think I'm pissing on your question. It's just that I have never tried to show off my system(s), sound wise. They are here for my pleasure, yes precious, my pleasure.

No apology necessary. When you spend all this time and money on something you’re proud of... I feel like it’s nice to want to show friends or family what the big deal is. Everyone is different though. Take care

As the Chief mentioned, it should be something familiar to the listener.

In the absence of knowing that, I would play something with startle-the-crap-out-of-you dynamics as I chose for Glenn's speaker video post. Crank it for the opening transient!

I used that track when we first put together our TV set-up. Of course its just bookshelves with a chip amp but we were surprised.

Here's what it looks like:

Reminds me of going to a Blue Angels airshow. I was following one of the Hornets in a performance climb, when two came abruptly from behind just over the deck on afterburners! $hhh----tt!

Similar... I always ask what their favorite song/band is.
Usually when I ask; “What would you like to listen to?” Company may request an older song, or one that’s poorly mastered and doesn’t show what your system is truly capable of. Ill play a song or artist everybody’s heard of. Michael Jackson~Thriller album would be my vinyl pick. I would use a lossless Hi-Res track initially though for first impressions since they would have the most dynamic range.

So all older songs are recorded poorly? The second half makes sense
No I didn’t mean imply that all older songs are recorded poorly, but an older 1960s mono album is definitely not going to have the same dynamics as an newer analog album or one digitally mastered 24/192. Newer master recordings would have been recorded/pressed with modern state of the art equipment.

“My company may request an older song OR one that’s poorly mastered and doesn’t show what your system is truly capable of.”

Sorry if I’m not making sense, I’m responding to several post, MQA forums, and just finished installing a marine radio, 2 batteries, cables, isolators, switches, lighter sockets,in my best friends boat. Making sure the boat is Great Lakes fishing trips ready.:) And... I was Outside all day getting some sunshine as you suggested.

I’m Beat now. Bath and bedtime.

One of these...not really "a song"

Telarc 1812 Overture
Telarc The Four Seasons
Telarc William Tell Overture

They don't like classical,

Whole Lotta Love
Comfortably Numb
Money for Nothing/The Man;s Too Strong

Back
Top Bottom
