Or at least buy a few when they go on sale @ around $36 each. I know it's more expensive buying two 2x2s opposed to one 2x4, but for me it's worth it.

Great point and one I took seriously enough to have an engineer look at my collection and gear and the weight they are putting on my floors. So far... I am good to go!

If you go bigger and are against a wall, I recommend using the included wall anchor brackets. Plus, for the larger ones, many people have added various strengthening mods. I have a couple 5x5s to which I added steel L-brackets to the corners on the back. Remember - a little paranoia goes a long way.
All that in a NYC apartment? Jealous!!

Have a similar setup. 3 high 4 wide with 3 tables on the top. Works well for me.
