i have searched the internet om my i think 1963 magnavox console stereo tv. It says astro-sonic and it is a color tv.model#1mr556k ser# 2318356 . Everything works it says its 425 watts. I cant find anything on one that looks like mine i paid 100.00 for it wich i think is a good deal. im not sure what year it was built so if anyone has input on if this unit let me know. i had one of these when i was 13 but it was just a radio type no tv and i wanted another until i found this one. By the way im 26 i love old radios and old cars im a vintage kinda man.

Welcome to AK~
Judging merely by the roundish tv tube, I'm going to say that's a '50s model.

early 60s to me. if its got tube amps in it they can be recapped and made to sound nice. theirs an old tv forum on this board. might be able to get more info there.

The TV would be tubed; the AM-FM hifi should be solid state or hybrid. The power amp is most likely solid state.

If you take the back off and look around Magnavox usually stamped the date on the chassis somewhere. It might also be on the cabinet, but I seem to remember seeing it on the preamp chassis.
That's really cool - I've never seen one with the tv option before. If you take the back off, could you post a couple of pics of the insides? Just watch out around the picture tube and high voltage flyback area of the tv - there's alot of juice stored up in there!

*add-on* What happened to the overarm on the record changer?

Thanks for the replies

record changer arm was broke when i got it. i do need another but i guess i will look on ebay. i will get pics of the inside tonight im excited to see what lives in there. thanks for the info. this thing is heavy im not a small guy at 5 11 and 235 lbs but i guess the weight to be 300+ my brother in law was dieing on his side. i said this thing has 6 legs it must be heavy.

I had a 1965 model of that in a Far Eastern Contemporary cabinet years ago, round screen. The stereo worked really well, tv didn't. I didn't care though. Love to find one like yours, yours is much better looking.

Thanks

For the complment. i can not fin a pic anywhere online of a maggie stereo tv that looks like mine. but a guy online has all the wiring diagrams for my unit for 20.00 so i will be getting those soon. he also said that mine is from dec 64 but i saw a sticker from i think the place where it was bought that said 09 16 63 so im thinkin its a 63. i will get pics this afternoon of the back and inside.

Look for a stencil on the bottom of the cabinet, inside or underneath. Your build date will be part of the stencil. It's a 63 or 64 Imperial.

Get on Photobucket and look up gerryu21220. He's got a bunch of magnavox stuff in jpg format. Lives on other side of Baltimore from me. he's got a 63 catalog among the other stuff on there.

pics of back

i found it is a tube amp. the tuner apears to be solid state though. sorry thre pics are with my phone at night so they could be much beter. i will try to get some good ones tomarrow.

Snap a shot of that little sticker with the tube complement and circuit diagram. The tubes shown are for the TV from what I can tell.

And some of the early tube chassis tv sets had less than needed shielding in the HV section for X-Rays...If you are across the room watching the set all is mostly ok..

But if you are hunched over the tv chassis working on it while it is on...not so good...

I actually had a lead apron from my shoulders down to my knees to protect my "vital parts" when I worked on the bench in the shop...Of course I was doing this 8 hours a day sometimes...

And watch out for the 2nd anode lead on the pix tube...it can store quite a jolt for a long time...

Tubes

so is the big componmet on the bottom middle only for the tv? and the audio amp is part of the tuner?
